Century HS Increases Both Pass and Proficiency Rates

The Challenge Built in 1989, Century High School (CHS) was named in honor of the city of Santa Ana’s 100th anniversary. Serving roughly 2,300 students, CHS’s population is 96% Hispanic or Latino, 43% of their students are classified as English Leaners and 84% qualify for free or reduced price meals. In recent years, the school has struggled with low-ranked Academic Performance Indexes (API), as well as a variable and sometimes declining enrollment. Despite these set-backs, CHS was committed to transforming their school and helping more students succeed.
The Solution We were seeing similar results year after year and wanted to accelerate student achievement even more. Within less than a year, Revolution K12 helped us break past the plateau we’d been at for about three years. With a blended learning approach, my teachers used the diagnostic software to help guide and differentiate their instruction. Based on the success we’ve had in preparing for the CAHSEE, CA High School Exit Exam, we’re implementing all of Revolution K12’s tools this coming year; I’m looking forward to another year of success!”

The Results After implementing Revolution K12’s CAHSEE 380 program: •

An additional 9% of 10th grade students passed the CAHSEE Math on their first try (up from 64% to 73% despite the fact that almost 100 fewer students attempted the exam). An additional 6% of 10th grade students passed the CAHSEE ELA on their first try (up from 62% to 68% despite the fact that almost 90 fewer students attempted the exam).
During a time of when schools are asked to meet ever-increasing accountability standards, a school must be concerned with not only its pass rates, but also the percentage of students who test at proficient and above. This is the number most important in calculating Adequate Yearly Progress, and in the case of Century High School: •
An additional 7% of students scored proficient and above in Math (up from 32% to 39%).

An additional 8% of students scored proficient and above in ELA increased (up from 28% to 36%).
