Are you ready for some new adventures? We made this Adventure Guide to show you how you and your family can have some fun and be healthy together. And our Kansas State Parks are a great place to do it. My company is about helping families like yours stay healthy. And a big part of staying healthy is exercise. For young people like you, exercise means playing and moving your body. When you’re running, chasing, jumping, riding bikes or hiking with your family, you’re having fun and exercising. And that’s great. Check out the eight exciting adventures in this book. You can experience them at the Kansas State Parks. If you want to try them, talk to your family about them. I hope you enjoy this Adventure Guide – and some real adventures, too!

Andy Corbin, Head Adventurer Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas

Unique blend of forested floodplains, oak savannahs and tallgrass prairie. Fast Healthy Fact: Simply going for a walk is the easiest way to incorporate exercise into your day.

Bike Riding Adventure

Kayaking Adventure Considered by many to be the most beautiful park in the state, the rugged shoreline offers boaters views of scenic cliffs and rocky outcrops.

1) Always wear a helmet 2) Stay hydrated 3) Wear bright, reflective clothing

4) Make your bike visible with lights and reflectors 5) Check your equipment before you ride 6) Slow down and pass on the left of other riders or pedestrians

Prairie Spirit Rail-Trail follows the original bed of the old Leavenworth, Lawrence and Fort Gibson Railroad. Built in the 1860s, it was the first north-south rail line in Kansas. Fast Healthy Fact: The best way to increase your family’s physical activity is to make time for it. Does your family enjoy a weekly bike ride or a nightly walk after dinner?

Spot the Differences: Can you find at least ten differences between these two pictures. Circle them when you find them. Look closely, it can be tricky. Fast Healthy Fact: Kids who exercise regularly are better able to handle life’s challenges – from running to catch a bus to studying for a test.
