Cone 05. AMACO® F-Series are fritted, leadless compositions. They are semi-opaque and fire with a high gloss. Colors are more intense and brilliant than those of many other glazes. Because AMACO® F-Series Glazes are leadless, they are recommended for pottery dishes.
These glazes must be applied on a mature Cone 04 (1971°F, 1077°C) bisque by brushing, dipping or pouring. The three White gloss glazes from AMACO® offer a variety of finishes when fired. RGF11 White fires to an off-white.
AMACO® F-Series Glazes in liquid form are ready-to-use. AMACO® F-Series Glazes have a recommended firing temperature of Cone 05 (1911°F, 1044°C). “Hamburger” by Savana Hale, age 10, Dayton elementary School , Dayton IN; made with F-Series. Photo courtesy of AMACO.

All CTL Series glazes are lead free. Cone 06-05. May be brushed, dipped or poured. Thorough stirring is necessary in order to bring crystals into solution. Crystals fan out on horizontal surfaces and run on vertical surfaces. No two pieces will ever be alike. A more controlled decorative effect can be obtained by brushing. Dip the brush at the top of the jar and apply two or more coats. Lift the crystals from the bottom of the jar with brush. CTL3, CTL31 and CTL41 have a matte finish with glossy crystals when fired. The rest of the series is either glossy or a textured gloss/matte finish. All crystals fire to a gloss finish. CTL1 Jet Moss

All L Series glazes are lead free. The high brilliance of lustre with the sheen of metallics. Dramatic by themselves, they shine in combinations. The end result is determined by the structure of the ware and the method of application. These glazes may be fired from cones 06-05 with good results. Use a brush or sponge to apply these glazes to a bisque fired piece. Stir and mix Lustre and Metallic glazes thoroughly. They should be the consistency of rich cream.

Cone 06-05. Crackle glazes are formulated to produce a network of cracks on fired ware similar to crazing, giving it an old or antique look. To emphasize the crackle after firing, swab the lines with colored inks. Crackle glazes are recommended for decorative items only, as these glazes do not seal the surface of the ware as other glazes do. Apply three crosshatched coats of Crackle glazes over a mature Cone 04 bisque.

Amaco Glazes Artist’s Choice Glazes Lead Free, Cone 05. These special effects glazes imitate the Artist-Potter’s favorites. They are Cone 05 oxidation glazes that look like high fired reduction stoneware. Effects like Temmoku, Rutile, Oil Spot and other reduction surfaces are achieved. They can be fired on a white clay body, but look the best over a red body. The color in the clay will partially show through the texture and add another color dimension to the glaze. These glazes will look completely different depending on the clay they are applied on. For glazes A-24 Exotic Blue and A-40 Seafoam Green; glaze fire slowly and add a 20 minutes hold at the end of the firing. The other glazes in the series will work well whether they are fired fast or slow.

Raku Glazes - Lead Free Cone 010-05. Lead Free. These glazes will produce a very dramatic effect when reduced after the raku firing. Remember that these glazes need to be fired to their recommended temperature at Cone 05. Once they reach temperature, then turn off the kiln; let it cool to about 1700°F before you pull the pieces out of the kiln with the tongs. You must protect yourself form the heat when you open the kiln at that high of a temperature. Therefore, wear heat and fireproof protective clothing, use high temperature gloves and an appropriate respirator to protect from smoke. If you are using an electric kiln, never pull material out of the kiln unless the kiln is turned off. Raku is a very unpredictable medium and is affected by many variables. The effects achieved with these or any other Raku glazes may not always be the same.

Vivid, intense reds, oranges, yellow and green. For use in oxidation or raku firings. Sun Strokes Underglazes have a gloss finish even when fired without the clear glaze. Therefore if they are applied on the bottom of the piece, they must be stilted when fired or they will stick to the kiln shelf. Clear glaze smoothes out and brightens the colors. Apply two even coats on cone 04 bisque ware. When using clear glaze, it must be applied over the decorated object before firing of the underglaze. Apply LG10 or F10 over underglaze colors for one stroke application and all over coverage. Cone 06-05. Put a “P” after the code when ordering pints.

These semi-translucent underglazes are primarily designed to be used without a glaze cover. Left unglazed they have the appearance of velour or velvet. They may also be used with transparent gloss or matte glazes like regular underglazes. Fired color is true to color in jar and colors may be intermixed for endless variations. Suitable for brushing or spraying on green or bisque ware. Velvets tolerate a wide firing range, Cone 05-5, except pinks-not above 2. Unglazed they are not intended for food container use. Now we carry Velvet Pints. Put a “P” after the code when ordering pints.

Kemper Tools T o o l s
The New! Kemper PRO-LINE tools are crafted from select hardwood handles. The steel loops and blades are made from “knife quality” high carbon steel that has been heat treated and quenched in oil to give the blades maximum hardness and durability. Because high carbon steel takes and holds a sharper and longer lasting edge than stainless, these tools last much longer even when used with highly groged clays and plaster. All of Kemper’s PRO-LINE tools are retained by brass ferrules and firmly set with industrial adhesives to protect against water and prevent them from coming loose. In addition each handle is immersed in an oil resin bath to seal the handle against water damage and prolong the life of the tools. Important: Since the cutting loops are made from high carbon steel which can rust, we recommend that the tools be kept clean and dry when not in use. Periodically applying a light coat of oil to the both the blade and handle will prolong the life of the tools. Should the need arise these tools can be resharpened if necessary. However, do not use a power grinder as too much heat may be generated which will destroy the temper of the tools. Kemper recommends that a whetstone, either oil or water, be used to restore your tool’s keen edge without damaging the tool.

MKM Pottery Rib Tools Wood Ribs
Steel Ribs
MKM Craftsman Series ribs consists of twenty-two differently shaped ribs made of a medium hard wood. The ribs have a variety of curves, and relatively sharp edges that are straight. The edges are finely sanded by hand and should not contain any dings. MKM feels that it is important for the curves of the rib to be constant. Each rib is finished with an oil and wax mixture that is deeply applied to the rib to make it more durable in water. Please note these images are not to scale.
MKM rigid stainless steel ribs are a miracle on smooth clays such as porcelains. They yield a beautiful surface to the clay, exert almost no drag on the clay wall, and never wear out, rot, or rust. They work well on stoneware and other grogged clays as well, but they are more technical. In other words, the angle at which you hold the rib to the clay determines the texture on the surface of the clay. If the rib is held at an angle to the clay and trailing along the clay surface, then the surface of the clay will be smooth and compressed. If you hold the rib perpendicular to the clay wall, then the grog will be dragged along the surface of the clay and a rougher surface will result. This aspect of steel ribs holds for flexible ribs as well. Please note these images are not to scale.

Decorating Disk
Pottery Paddles
Benefits of the MKM Decorating Disk™: ● Make Square, rectangular, or other shaped plates quickly and with ease. ● Use it to guide your patterns with glaze or slip decoration. ● Line up handles and spouts perfectly every time – in seconds. ● Alter the rim of bowl in 3rds, quarters, etc., and be right on every time. ● Mark your bats and templates accurately and quickly. ● Comes with odd and even discs.
These paddles are all double-sided: with a different pattern on each side. MKM paddles are made of a wood that is relatively light and not too thick so that their momentum doesn’t carry them right through the wall of the pot. They are wide enough (4 inches) for rolling coils of clay on for handles, feet, and other attachment. They are also soaked in a heated oil mixture to make them very durable, yet still release from the clay. Some customers have even purchased the paddles in pairs so that they can roll coils between the paddles.
The 4” disk is especially useful for mugs, cups, small lids and other small items, and for decorating the interiors of bowls and plates.

Ceramic Tools Mud Tool Ribs These ribs are made from a flexible material that performs well and actually gets better with use (it is self-polishing). With five shapes, they cover a lot of what hand builders and throwers need from a rib. Each rib shape is available in four hardnesses from very soft to firm. You can choose the shape and hardness that suits your clay and your working style. $4.80 each Code: SMT + color letter (R, Y, C, B) + rib type (0-5)

Iowa Education Consortium Ordering Procedure To receive these guaranteed prices for 2010, please reference IEC Bid 2010 on your purchase order. You must specify this contract to receive the special IEC Pricing. Minnesota Clay is under no obligation to contact schools that do not reference this bid to ascertain whether it is an IEC Bid Order. Purchase orders received that do not contain this reference, will be billed in accordance with our catalog price at the time of the order. Remember to reference IEC 2010 when placing your order. We offer several ways to order: By Mail: Minnesota Clay Co USA 7429 Washington Ave S Edina, MN 55439 By Fax: 952-884-1820 By E-Mail:
[email protected] Freight charges will be applied to all orders. Orders weighing 250 lbs. or less of product will ship by a small parcel carrier and actual charges by carton weight will be added. The following chart will help you estimate smaller orders weighing less than 250 lbs. Clay 50 lbs. carton=$18.38 (5) x 50# = $83.90
Glazes & Underglazes 1 Gallon 15 lbs=$9.23 (4) Gallons (60#) = $25.37
Glazes & Underglazes (5) Pints (10 lbs) = $8.27 (10) Pints (20#) = $10.65
The following chart will help you estimate smaller orders weighing more than 250 lbs. Maximum 2400 pounds total weight of clay & glazes = $85.00 for shipping & pallet charge. 2401 pounds to 4800 pounds total weight of clay & glazes = $170.00 for shipping & pallet charges. (A pallet is the wooden frame needed for easy moving of a truck shipment.) Orders will ship complete unless otherwise instructed. Request for partial shipments will be honored but freight charges will be incurred on the additional shipment(s). Payments are due 30 days after shipment, or invoice will be subject to a 1.5% per month finance charge. Note: Truck delivery charges quoted above are to a dock that is truck height for quick/easy unloading. We suggest “group ordering” when possible for schools in the same district that do not have a dock; to have the “group order” ship to a school that does have a dock. Extra freight charges can be avoided by having group orders delivered to a dock, or by having school staff unload the truck. We wish to remind you that truck drivers are not required to unload their trucks. If the driver is asked to hand unload the truck, this will result in additional freight charges. Please note any freight damage, or shortage on the “Proof of Delivery.”
