[email protected] The Keystone College Cheerleaders are a group of athletic and energetic students, who are devoted to the traditions of the college and its school spirit. The cheerleaders not only cheer for the men's and women's basketball home games, they support the other Keystone College sport teams, compete in national competitions, attend UCA summer camps, perform at pep rallies, all while fundraising for their needs. The team is a co-ed squad which brings the excitement level of the performance to a whole new level. The team is run by two captains and overseen by Coach Stanavitch. Keystone College cheerleading offers the chance to build long-lasting friendships, team camaraderie, and the opportunity to experience Keystone athletics at its finest. This will be Coach Stanavitch's 12th season as head coach of the cheerleading squad. During this twelve year period, the squad has changed from all-girl to co-ed. Coach Stanavitch has been a cheerleading coach for the past 22 years. She is a certified member of the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administrators (AACCA). She feels strongly that stunting safety must be the most important aspect taught to the team. "Cheerleading is getting a lot of bad press because of the big injuries that have been shown in the news lately, but the thing to remember is that these injuries are not common. If the coach takes the time to teach stunt progressions and safe stunting, cheerleading is a very safe sport" says Coach Stanavitch. The squad received a "Superior" awards at UCA camps in August 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 for their performance. The Keystone College Cheerleaders also placed 10th in Division II at UCA/UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships at the Walt Disney World Resorts in January 2007, along th with a 12 place finish at the UCA/UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships in January of 2009, ranking Keystone Cheerleading among the upper echelon in Division II Cheerleading programs. This is a testament to the squad’s work ethic, relationships, and desire to succeed at the national level. Awards: The cheerleading program was re-instituted in 1999, under the direction of Vicki Stanavitch. Several students wanted to cheer at Keystone, but the program was inactive. Coach Stanavitch and the students brought the team back as a club for the first season, and as a part of the athletics department every season after that.
The first few years the team was an all-girl squad, but in the 2003-2004 seasons, the squad became co-ed and remains co-ed to this day. The team placed 6th at the NEPA Cheer Challenge in the small co-ed division (March 2006) The team placed 10th at the UCA/UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships at The Walt Disney World Resorts (January 2007) The Team routinely receives “Superior" awards at UCA College Summer Camps for their outstanding performances, along with numerous "Blue Ribbons" for their excellent daily performances at camp. (August 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 & 2010) The team placed 12th at the UCA/UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships at The Walt Disney World Resorts (January 2009)
