Activity-Specific Rules Kickball is a non-contact activity. However, contact and injuries are a possibility. The Intramural Sports program assumes no responsibility for injuries and all participants must sign the online waiver in IMLeagues or complete the Indemnity Statement prior to competing.

1. The Field a. The fieldhouse will be split into two courts with the curtains down, bases placed 50 feet apart b. 1 ball per court with extras. 2 officials, 1 in the field, 1 near home plate (keep track of score, outs, etc), will officiate the game. c. Pitching rubber shall be 35 feet from home plate, between 1st and 3rd base. A piece of tape will signify this area. 2. Rules/Regulations a. A team consists of five (5) players. A minimum of four (4) is needed to start and continue the game. For Co-Rec, two (2) females are needed. There will be 6 innings three outs per inning or a time limit of 45 minutes. An inning may not start after 40 minutes. b. The team captain must supply the home plate official with a legible batting order (first and last name) prior to the start of the game. c. No metal, hard plastic, or shoes with spikes are allowed. d. Sliding will not be allowed by the base runner e. Team captains will flip a coin/rock paper scissors for home/visitor. f. The defensive team may be set up in any order the team wishes. There is no set rule for placing defending players. g. The batter is out in situations similar to softball or baseball (force outs, pop flys, tags, etc.) In addition, a runner is out when she/he is hit by a thrown ball below the shoulder. The ball can bounce and hit the player for an out. o *If a player ducks or takes a position with their head below where their shoulders would normally be when standing, i.e. crouching, sitting, laying, and this clearly is the cause for the player being hit above the shoulders, the player is out and the throw is considered legal.

h. The ball is put into play when the pitcher (a player on the defensive team) rolls the ball toward home plate and the batter attempts to kick the ball. The batter must wait for the ball to be within three feet of home plate before kicking the ball. A marker will be placed three feet from home plate. If they kick the ball when it is more than 3 feet, it will be counted as a try. The batter gets a maximum of two (2) tries. A missed attempt or foul ball counts as a try. After two tries, the batter is out. If a pitch does not cross home plate the pitch is a ball. After two balls the batter is awarded a walk. i. Bunting is not allowed and will be an automatic out. j. The pitcher is not allowed to squeeze the air out of the ball before pitching, this will result in an automatic walk and if continued the team will be asked to change pitchers. Also the ball may not have any noticeable bounce once it passes the 3 foot line. If it bounces past the 3 foot line, the batter will get 1 re-pitch. k. There will be no infield fly rule. l. Leading off and stealing bases between pitches is NOT allowed. The runners must wait until the kicker makes contact with the ball to run. If they run before the ball is put into play by the batter, they will be called out. m. Defensive player with ball has the right to step in base path and make a play on the base runner. Base runner cannot ‘railroad’ the defensive player. n. Injured Runner: If an accident occurs which prevents the base-runner from proceeding, a substitute runner of the same sex will be permitted. If no substitute is available, the player of the same sex who made the last out will run. o. Teams may bat as many players as they want (full amount of roster), but the batting order should never change once the game has begun, unless someone has to leave the game permanently. Substitutes in the batting order must be of the same gender. Co-ed batting order must use guy-girl format as far down the order as possible. Players that arrive after the game has begun may be added to the end of the batting order, unless needed for alternating guy-girl format.

p. A ball that hits the curtain will be played as if it hit the ground; it remains live but cannot be caught for an out. Any ball that hits the ceiling (i.e. rafters, batting nets, etc.) will be counted as a strike. o Any ball which hits on or above the first white strip on the mesh part of the back curtain between the first and third base line will be ruled a home run. In addition, any ball which is kicked through either of the basketball hoops that are in the base lines will be ruled a home run. However, any ball that leaves through either the gap in the curtains in left or right field will be ruled a ground rule double, even if the ball appears that would have been at the home run level. q. Each team will be allowed two, 30 second time outs per game if they are needed. r. Forfeit time has been established as 10 minutes after the scheduled start, teams should report to the field a minimum of 15 minutes before the scheduled starting time of the game. s. After four complete innings (or 3½ if the home team leads), if a team is ahead by 10 or more runs, the game will be called.
