Romans 8:14 • For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, to them have been given the power to become the Sons of God
Qualifier: as many as are led • to lead, • -‐to lead by laying hold of, and this way to bring to the point of desPnaPon – to lead with one's self, aRach to one's self as an aRendant
• to lead, – to lead, guide, direct – to move, impel: of forces and influences on the mind
Romans 8:19 • For all creaPon awaits the manifestaPon of the Sons of God
James 4:7-‐8 • 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. • 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-‐minded. *The submission to God is seen in Verse 8
1 John 3:1-‐4 (NKJV) • 3:1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us,[because it did not know Him. • 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. • 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. • 4Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.
We must allow Him to lead us • Romans 8:12-‐15 • 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. • 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. • 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. • 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adopPon by whom we cry out, Abba, Father.

Spirit of Bondage: – The bondage we had before we were saved – The bondage may have conPnued a while (we were Pais)
Spirit of Adop\on: • We have received an opportunity! •
• FOR GROWTH • TO POINT OF SPIRITUAL MATURITY
• BUT WE SHOULD BE GROWING AS HIS CHILDREN TO MATURITY •
Spiritual Adop\on of Sons • Not placement in a family • BUT RATHER, • Placement in AUTHORITY OF FAMILY BUSINESS
Ma#hew 3:16-‐17 NKJV 16 When He had been bapPzed, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighPng upon Him. • 17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Adop\on Ceremony aka Sonship Ceremony • Huiothesia – Right of Passage – Mature sons – Age 30 – Father would publicly lay hands on the son – Declare: this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased – Then bestow on the son FULL AUTHORITY & POWER to run the family business

16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our
spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

We are heirs • James 2:5 • Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
To become • WITH THE HELP OF THE SPIRIT, we become mature sons. • No longer slaves (Pais) to sin
• No need to remain as a child – ever learning submission to God • But rather……..
Gala\ons 4:1-‐7 NKJV • Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all, • 2 but is under guardians and stewards unPl the Pme appointed by the father. • 3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world. • 4 But when the fullness of the Pme had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, • 5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adopPon as sons. • 6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, Abba, Father! 7 Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
We can become MATURE SONS – – Have our Huiothesia – Begin to operate in the Family Business – In the FULLNESS of the power of the Spirit
