Kaboom PlaygroundThe Alamosa Kiwanis will be a community partner with the City of Alamosa to build a new playground. The new playground will be built at Lee Softball Fields in Alamosa and will replace the existing playground. Through a grant from Kaboom and the help of community volunteers, the playground will be built in one day. The build date will be late June. Stay tuned to find out how you can get involved.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.

Meet our newest club member-

Annual Club Election NoticeAs per club bylaws this notice hereby serves to notify all members that the annual meeting and election of officers will be held on Thursday, April 19th, 2018 at IHOP; in place of our weekly meeting. At the meeting, elections will be held for new club board members and club officers for the 2018-2019 year which begins 10/1/12018. Members interested in serving on the board or holding an office should contact the Nominations Committee: Lillie Munoz, Doris Roberts and Jacki Kennedy.

Kiwanis International ConventionThe annual Kiwanis International Convention will be held June 28-30, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Registration is $150 until April 15th, then it goes up to $225 www.kiwanis.org/convention/2018 Book your hotel at either Bally’s or Paris through the Kiwanis ICON registration website. Kiwanians receive free parking, free Wi-Fi access and reduced room rates.

Amy McKinley Amy McKinley has been married to her husband Robert McKinley for 28 years. Robert has worked at Rio Grande County for 24 years and is a HS football official. They live on a small ranch in Mosca and are now empty nesters. They have two daughters: Brooke Colvin graduated from Adams State, is married and has one son. Jenna McKinley is currently a sophomore at CSU Pueblo and on the track team. The McKinley Family has been involved with 4-H, FFA, and sports for many years. Amy has professionally worked in Alamosa County for 22 years in 4 different roles all directly related to finance. She spent 9 months at ASU as the payroll manager for 400 students and 500 employees. She is currently the Human Resources/Risk Manager for the City of Alamosa. Amy is running for Alamosa County Treasurer/Public Trustee. She is passionate about local level government, loves being a public servant, supporting our community and especially supporting youth.

Thursday 6/27: Educational workshops, Opening Session, Rocky Mountain District Dinner Friday 6/28: Educational workshops, House of Delegates Saturday 6/29: Educational workshops, closing session, Gala with Three Dog Night. Club admin funds are budgeted to help members attend ICON. Each Kiwanis club can have 2 delegates. Please let us know if you are planning to attend ICON and if you can be a delegate.

SLP NewsThe AHS Key club held a successful fundraiser on March 31 “Easter parade of Dogs” at Cole Park with 20 entries.

Thank You to all of the Kiwanis members that donated door prizes and funds to help make this event a success.

On Friday, April 6th, 8 students will head off to Key Club District Convention in Lakewood, CO, along with Kiwanis Members Wendy Willett, the faculty advisor, and Kathy Lee as chaperone.
