This elegant warm-weather shawl will help you transition your look from afternoon to evening. Knit in Caron's Simply Soft.

Abbreviations P2tog = purl two stitches together

ssk = Slip next 2 stitches knitwise one at a time. Pass them back onto lefthand needle, then knit through back loops together.

WS = wrong side

Details & Instructions MEASUREMENTS Width 55"/139.5cm at top edge of triangle plus 10"/25.5cm ties (optional). Length 30"/76cm.

One pair size US 9 (5.5mm) needles or size to obtain gauge. Stitch

yo = yarn over the needle (makes 1 extra stitch)

markers. Yarn needle.

GAUGE 16 sc = 4"/10cm.

INSTRUCTIONS PATTERN STITCH Eyelet Pattern (worked over an even number of sts) Row 1 (WS) Knit. Row 2 Knit. Row 3 K2, *yo, p2tog; repeat from * across, end k2. Row 4 Knit. Repeat Rows 1-4 for Eyelet pattern. NOTES Shawl begins with a narrow band knit lengthwise then shawl stitches are picked up and knit downward. This keeps the top edge very soft and flexible. Knit the shorter length band for a shawl without ties or the longer length band to have ties on each end. TOP BAND CO 5 sts. Knit every row until band measures 55 (75)"/139.5 (190.5)cm. BO all sts. SHAWL WITH TIES Measure 10" (25 cm) from each end, place markers. Pick up and knit 182 sts between markers along long edge of band.. SHAWL WITHOUT TIES Pick up and knit 181 sts along long edge of band. Row 1 (WS): Knit across. Row 2: K3, k2tog, knit to last 5 sts, ssk, k3. Row 3: K3, *yo, p2tog; rep from * to last 3 sts, k3. Row 4: K3, k2tog, knit to last 5 sts, ssk, k3. Repeat these 4 rows until 8 sts remain. Next row: K2, k2tog, ssk, k2. Knit 2 rows. Bind off.
