[email protected] December 21,2017 Karl Amylon, City Manager Ketchikan City Council 334 Front Street Ketchikan, AK 99901 Something incredible happens when teamwork happens the way it's supposed to happen. Things change when everyone on the team is equally invested in the overall purpose and goal. You find yourself working faster, finding mistakes more easily, and innovating better. This has been the year for some pretty incredible teamwork among the community nonprofit agencies. This past year, SAIL, led by Keith Smith has played an integral part in changing the lives of several people. The organization has found jobs for individuals no one thought were employable. They have found housing where individuals feel safe, wanted and cared for. SAIL has made being out of doors a reality for people with disabilities a reality when they had given up on having anything "normal" in their lives. SAIL makes a difference in lives! Through a holistic, team approach, Rendezvous, SAIL, LOVE INC. Ketchikan Homeless Services, the Methodist Church and WISH have changes lives, touched families, fed hungry seniors and children and made this a better community. Please, be a part of our team by funding the work of SAIL and the other non-profit agencies for another year. "Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results." -Andrew Carnegie I encourage you to visit the SAIL offices at the Plaza to witness the amazing group of people working to make an more equitable place in our community for everyone. Please, continue to fun their efforts.

City of Ketchikan 334 Front Street Ketchikan, AK 99901 December 18, 2017 To Honorahle Mayor and City Council Members, Alaska Legal Services Corporation would like to write this letter in support of SAi L's assistance in helping our vulnerable disabled residents apply for Social Security benefits. SAIL has sent several of their staff to classes to learn how to assist our residents in the initial application for disability. Few people who apply for Social Security benefits on their own arc approved because they arc not aware of the massive amounts of medical records and personal infom1ation they need to provide with the application. SAIL consults with their client's then helps to obtain medical records for them to prove they have the disabilities they claim. It is a long tedious process that often frustrates and confuses those that apply. Social Security has ''listings'' (see attachment) that must be met for each impairment. Also attached is the information on Evidentiary Requirements they also must meet. Not only do the people they assist get a dependable monthly income but also Medicaid. This enables them to get the medical care they need and allows them to continue to live in our community. Sincerely, -
