Lab #1 Sampling Plan, Results of QA, Watershed Walk, and Visual Survey for Hillsborough River Site #103 at Lowry Park Submitted by: Cornel McTaggart February 14, 2013
View of Hillsborough River at mouth of stream facing east.
Sampling Plan Sampling Objectives: Monitoring the health of a ¼ mile section of a tributary to the Hillsborough River.
Legal Requirements: Access to the sampling site is approved by Hillsborough Community College and Hillsborough County Stream –Waterwatch Program.
Known Contaminants: None Known
Sample Collection Procedures: Air Temperature reading measured using the Spirit Heavy Duty Pocket Test Thermometer, protected in metal case. Place in shade until reading stabilizes. Water Temperature reading measured using the Spirit Heavy Duty Pocket Test Thermometer. Submerge thermometer in water anchored by string until reading stabilizes. pH values measured using Wide Range Indicator pH Test Kit. Range: 4-10 pH units. Cat No. 1470-11, Model 17-N. Dissolved Oxygen values obtained using Dissolved Oxygen Water Quality Test Kit code 5860, Lot no. 032119. Turbidity measurements obtained using a 60 cm Turbidity Tube (clear). Grab samples- three bottles of sample collected each month for testing by Hillsborough County Extension Services Laboratory. The QA results for pH, dissolved oxygen, and temperature were conducted at lake. The results were as follows: pH, D.O., and Temperature were at acceptable levels: The results of the testing done at Hillsborough River – Lowry Park, site# 103, at 3:00 pm on 1/31/2013, are as follows: Air Temperature = 20 degrees C Water Temperature = 28 degrees C pH = 7.8 D.O. = 6.2 ppm Turbidity = 47.6 cm
