The joint expedition o f the T ibetan M ountaineering A ssociation and the H im alayan A ssociation o f Japan was led by Cheng Tian Liang with deputy leader K en’ichi Y am am ori. T here were nine m em bers from each association. On Septem ber 16, we established Base Cam p at 4500 m eters near Langgoloz village. O n the 20th we placed A dvance Base 21 kilom eters up the valley at 5300 m eters. O n S eptem ber 28 we pitched C am p I on a snow plateau at 5600 m eters. C am p II w as established on O ctober 6 at 6150 m eters on the hanging glacier on the northw est face. W e fixed 20 ropes to gain the w est ridge. The blizzard from O ctober 17 to 19 left heavy snow . Cam p I was buried by a snow slide but no m em bers w ere hurt. C am p III was placed on the w est ridge on O ctober 25. O n O ctober 26, Japanese H idekatsu Furukaw a, K eiichi Sudo, O sam u T anabe and I and T ibetans W anjia, D iaqiog, G yala and Lhaji clim bed to the sum m it (7367 m eters, 24,170 feet), having fixed 14 m ore ropes. On O ctober 27, Japanese Sadao O gaw a, Y asuhiro H ashim oto and T oshiya Takahashi and T ibetans L haba, Pupu, A kapu and Tonglu also got to the sum m it. Tonglu and Lhaji are ladies.
