Approximately 4.5 million people are food insecure in the Lake Chad Basin region, a decline from a height of 7 million last year. While the food security situation remains grave, over the last year Nigeria experienced a 29% decline of those in need of urgent food assistance, the largest decrease among countries in the Lake Chad Basin region, due to improved security, access, and increased humanitarian assistance.

Boko Haram and ISIS-West Africa related conflict continues to restrict humanitarian access and drive internal displacement in the Lake Chad Basin region, where an estimated 10.7 million people need assistance and 2.2 million are displaced. The nine year conflict between the extremist groups and the governments of the Lake Chad Basin region continues to threaten civilians and their livelihoods.
