Lamar University - Department of Student Development & Leadership Leadership Institute The Department of Student Development and Leadership is dedicated to increasing leadership abilities, promoting student learning, and enhancing the development of all participating students. In an effort to provide a more comprehensive and on-going learning experience the department is launching the Leadership Institute which will provide non-academic leadership certificates to deserving students that complete various levels of leadership education, training, and engagement on the Lamar University campus. Reasons to participate in this program include: Various levels of commitment are available Upon completion students will be awarded during the Toast to Leadership Awards Banquet Participants will gain access to various leadership events Students will have verified documentation of their college involvement Great networking opportunities and chances to obtain references Students will have a complete portfolio upon completion Students will gain access to their Co-Curricular Transcript Applicant Requirements: Desire to become a well rounded leader 2.7 Cumulative GPA Application must be submitted by the 12th class day each semester Leadership Certificate Structure: Leadership Core - Information related to basic leadership concepts, theories, and involvement Leadership Emphasis - Cultural Inclusion, Service Learning, Professional Development, and Personal Development Leadership Capstone - Upper level leadership training that prepares students as they exit the university Certificates Available: Big Red Leader: Students complete the leadership core and two emphasis areas Spindletop Leader: Students complete the leadership core, at least two emphasis areas, and the leadership capstone Mirabeau Leader: Student complete all sections of the certificate General Information: All hours and events must be logged into OrgSync Workshops/Event information will be provided to participants at the beginning of each semester
