1.
Provide sufficient heat between Sept. 1 – June 1 . (70 degrees from 6:00AM – 11:00PM & 65 degrees from 11:00PM – 6:00AM)
2.
Maintain grounds free of debris, overgrowth, weeds, general filth, blight, peeling paint and other evidence of decay or deterioration (this includes commons areas, if applicable)
3.
Provide sufficient hot water (able to achieve 120 degree minimum)
4.
Provide tenants with trash removal service and proper and sufficient trash receptacles with covers
5.
Ensure that heating units, windows, provided appliances, doors, stairs, porches, provided flooring, roof, walls, ceilings, hot water heaters, plumbing, etc. and that all parts of the dwelling are in good repair and in working order
6.
Premises must be kept free of vermin and/or infestation
7.
Do not permit overcrowding
8.
Cellars cannot be used for living/sleeping purposes
9.
(SINGLE FAMILY HOUSES ONLY) must notify Health Department within (10) days after a vacancy
10. SINGLE FAMILY HOUSES can only be rented to (1) single family or a group living as a family unit that shares all areas of the dwelling, including paying rent as a single family unit (transient tenancy is not permitted) (change of tenancy requires an updated application) 11. RENTED ROOMS can only be rented if OWNER OCCUPIED. If so, you can have (1) to (2) tenants living with the owner (not in the cellar) All questions should be directed to: 201-837-1600 (x1500) or [email protected]
Failure to comply may result in the issuance of summonses with fines up to $500 each (these requirements are common & general, but do not include all of the current laws, rules, statutes & ordinances on record)
