PURPOSE Language is a vocalized expression of concepts. Many students are unaware of culture barriers that are present within the language that they speak. Modern language have lost its logical integrity intern many words have different meaning and can be deemed offensive in other cultures. The goal of this presentation is to identify language barriers and build a socially diverse leader.
GROUND RULES •
Listen actively -- respect others when they are talking.
•
Speak from your own experience instead of generalizing ("I" instead of "they," "we," and "you").
•
Do not be afraid to respectfully challenge one another by asking questions, but refrain from personal attacks -focus on ideas.
• •
Participate to the fullest of your ability -- community growth depends on the inclusion of every individual voice. Instead of invalidating somebody else's story with your own spin on her or his experience, share your own story and experience.
•
The goal is not to agree -- it is to gain a deeper understanding.
•
Be conscious of body language and nonverbal responses -- they can be as disrespectful as words.

APPLE INC. DIVERSITY STATEMENT The official diversity statement is 14 paragraphs, here is an except. From the very earliest days we have known that diversity is critical to our success. We believe deeply that inclusion inspires innovation. Our definition of diversity goes far beyond the traditional categories of race, gender, and ethnicity. It includes personal qualities that usually go unmeasured, like sexual orientation, veteran status, and disabilities. Who we are, where we come from, and what we’ve experienced influence the way we perceive issues and solve problems. We believe in celebrating that diversity and investing in it. http://www.apple.com/diversity/
