With less than one week from our first trip ever to the United States, we are very excited to see the churches and individuals that have supported us for so many years while we participate in what God is doing in our midst. We want to thank each one of you that has made this trip possible and ask for your prayers as we leave our home and family in the care of others. For 15 years we have seen growth in the lives of Southern Chileans. To be more effective in this work, God has blessed us with a grand building project. A unique school that will seek not only to educate but transform thousands of students and their families, creating disciples and church planters. For 15 years we’ve labored to transmit our vision for the Kingdom. There have been occasions of both success and failure, but just one week ago we had the joy of seeing this work bear fruit in just a few hours. The story is truly a beautiful one. On June 6, I bought the roofing panels to be installed with a short term missions team from FCC Yuma. Despite an original delivery date of June 20, the panels were still not there when the team arrived the morning of June 27. That morning, I received a call from the truck driver himself, Alejandro Ruedas. Alejandro told me that his truck had broken an axel en route and wouldn’t be arriving for several days.

Fury, frustration and powerlessness overwhelmed me all at once. I immediately called and demanded a just solution. It wasn’t a situation with a simple solution though. These were custom fabricated 45ft panels so a refund did us little good as the team had already made the trip and we hoped they wouldn’t be stuck doing only small jobs around the property. To make a long story short, I continued to fuss with all the respective supervisors until one of them assured me that the goods would arrive on Thursday afternoon between 3-5p. Though it wasn’t ideal because the team arrived Monday morning, it was a final solution. Glory to God, what great management skills I displayed. Until Thursday came along and still no panels; At this point we had exhausted plan A, B & C and there was nothing left to do but continue feeding the team more food.

That evening I spoke with Alejandro, who had been sleeping in his truck on the side of the freeway for 7 days guarding thousands of dollars of merchandise. He assured me that he wished to deliver the goods as much as we wanted to receive them. He told me that as soon as he delivered his cargo he could return to Santiago where his granddaughter was in critical You can also donate online condition in the ICU. “What time will you be here tomorrow?” I asked, again ignoring the If you have any question, Please contact our office in WA suffering of this man as I worried about the job to be done, the team members, and the future 360– 805-2885 students of our school. www.iamweb.org

At 10:30a on Thursday, July 2 the panels pulled onto the property, 2 weeks late and literally weighing a ton. Using even the driver’s help and an Egyptian technique of rolling the panels off the truck, we were able to unload all 26 of the 42’ panels and I was reminded that God was in control all along.

Lautaro Iberoamerican Ministries — July 2015 Dan had already signed the documents by about 11am and when I came out to say goodbye to Alejandro he expressed his frustration that at his next destination 30 minutes away, he couldn’t unload until that evening. I invited him in to have lunch, but he was afraid that Mr. Miguel would be mad that we had invited him to join us. Oops, I guess I never introduced myself, “Hi, I’m Miguel. I’m the guy in charge here and pastor of the church.” I was dumbstruck. We had spoken so many times, he had heard me complain and demand my rights, but the cargo had always been the most important thing to me and I had forgotten there was another person on the other side of the phone. But God was in control.

As we got into the dining room to eat, the love of the ladies working in the kitchen overwhelmed this man who had been eating bread and cold cuts for 8 days straight. A bowl of hot soup, fresh bread, juice and homemade meat and cheese empanadas must have felt like a banquet. “How strange” I thought to myself. We had changed the menu for that day several times and the day we receive Alejandro, we are having a bona fide festival of food. As we all finished up, Dan approached me and suggested we pray for Alejandro’s granddaughter. “That’s right!” I thought. It had slipped my mind that he mentioned that to us. We asked him if we could pray for her and his entire family and he accepted gratefully. Perhaps due to nerves, he began searching through his cell phone for a photo as we started praying. After a few seconds, the keypad on this tall, lanky, weathered man’s flip phone slowly quieted. Alejandro left that day with a full belly and a grateful heart. We put up just one of 26 roof panels. The next day, without any professional help, a group of teachers from Yuma, 2 missionaries, an intern and a pastor finished a job in one day that ought to have taken a week and that same night Chile won the Copa America for the first time ever. That evening my cell phone buzzed and I picked it up to hear the voice of Alejandro Ruedas calling. It had been now 10 days on the road. He says to me, “ I’m stuck further south for another few days but it’s okay, I’m happy.” He added. “You all changed my life. Nobody has ever treated me with such love and care. Don’t take this the wrong way cuz I’m a rough guy, not a bad guy, but I’ve made my share of mistakes.” I could hear him sobbing now and I began to cry as well. “My granddaughter is well, she was released from the ICU and is out of danger now. The Jesus you all spoke about changed my life.” I did nothing, but God was always in control. So I ask myself, “Is all this worth the effort?” The salvation of a trucker, a small child, a rural Mapuche demonstrates clearly that it’s worth it; without a doubt.

I’ll finish encouraging you all to continue along side us. The churches in the south are well, the people are excited and we know that finishing this part of the roof was a great encouragement. A huge thanks to our brothers and sisters in Yuma who did an incredible job.
