Summer Events Officer (Temp) 0.7 FTE (3.5 days/week) £26,086 pro rata From 5th June until 22nd September (with a possible extension to Mid-October) Job Description & Person Specification About London Cycling Campaign With over 40,000 supporters (of whom over 12,000 are fully paid-up members) and 30 borough groups, London Cycling Campaign (LCC) is both a cycling charity and the largest urban cycling campaign in the world. For over 30 years we have campaigned for better provision for cycling in London. We work to reduce the barriers that prevent people enjoying the freedom and convenience that cycling brings, and believe that making cycling the number one transport choice for every day, local journeys will generate immense quality of life, environmental, health and economic benefits for the capital. In parallel with our campaigning, LCC works in partnership to directly promote cycling with businesses, local authorities, community groups, schools and other institutions, as well as providing a range of led-rides for people of all ages and backgrounds. The Cycling Projects Team’s role is to use LCC’s expertise and experience to generate income to support the organisation and its campaigning. The Cycling Projects team work includes behaviour change programmes, one-off events and consultancy for a range of funders and clients. Main Purpose of the Role This role will deliver the London Cycling Campaign’s 2017 summer events programme. LCC attends many large events as well as organises guided rides. The main projects will include organising guided rides into London Freecycle, supporting LCC’s local groups with summer cycling activity and other LCC events aimed at businesses. Note: it is possible that this role could be extended to help deliver the LCC’s London Cycling Awards in October.

Key Responsibilities of the Role Event Delivery & Management      

Delivering large scale events Delivering behaviour change programmes that promote and encourage cycling in urban areas Managing freelance staff, suppliers and volunteers Creating suitable content to promote events – both online and physical Implementing face-to-face and on-line engagement techniques for the collection of monitoring and evaluation data Client liaison and management LCC Summer Events Officer (2017) JD

Ensuring monitoring & evaluation and reporting are delivered to agreed plan

Programme & Project Management    

Creating project and resource plans to ensure projects are completed to deadline and meet the requirements of the client Identification and mitigation of risks Ensuring projects and events are delivered within budgets Evaluation of projects and suggesting improvements for future work

Supporting LCC’s work in general by:      

Sharing with colleagues the day-to-day workload of the office, such as responding to public enquiries Assisting colleagues in their own areas of work, as necessary Passing on business leads and other contacts as needed Performing other tasks as may reasonably be requested by the CEO/line manager to further LCC’s aims. Conducting out-of-hours work as may reasonably be requested by the CEO/line manager (for which TOIL may be claimed) Carrying out all duties in accordance with the ethos and policies of the organisation

Skills & Experience Required Essential         

Extremely organised self-starter, capable of managing own workload Experience of delivering and project managing public facing events Ability to act on own initiative within a prescribed framework Good oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people Good competency with standard office software Numerate with an understanding of office financial systems Experience of working with different stakeholders and volunteers to deliver events Understanding of the barriers that people have to taking up cycling and knowledge of information and techniques that can address these barriers Good knowledge of cycling culture in London

Desirable      

Knowledge of cycling best practice and policy in relation to cycling infrastructure and policy in London Experience of delivering awards ceremonies/and or large events Knowledge of design software (Photoshop, In Design etc) Experience of promoting public events Experience of coordinating online content (including social media) Experience of working in multi-discipline teams
