Robert David Cobbs, Jr. is the Assistant Vice President of Diversity & Equal Employment Opportunity with Norfolk Southern Corporation. He leads and facilitates system-wide diversity initiatives and compliance efforts in equal employment opportunity and affirmative action. David has been employed with Norfolk Southern since 1977; he’s held various positions throughout the corporation from New York to Chicago. He once gained extensive experience performing various jobs such as a brakeman, conductor, and locomotive engineer, during an 88-day work stoppage by clerical employees. David attended Duke University. He completed an Executive Education program at the Fuqua School of Business and graduated cum laude with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. David has been involved in several professional associations. He is currently associated with the Equal Employment Advisory Council (EEAC) in Washington, DC and The Salvation Army – Tidewater Area Command in Norfolk, VA. He served on each of their Board of Directors and chaired several committees. He previously mentored middle-school students in Norfolk public schools as part of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce Mentors Program. David has been married for 34 years to Bobbie Brown Cobbs; they have 3 grown children. Some of his favorite pastimes are traveling, tennis, Yoga, Pilates, Paddle boarding, surfing and jogging.
