LEARNING GOALS: Cooperative Education Job Readiness I will create an effective resume, cover letter(s), and thank you letter(s) for the work search process, using wordprocessing software and appropriate vocabulary and conventions. I will complete job applications effectively without spelling and grammatical errors. I will demonstrate the ability to communicate interest in a work opportunity effectively (e.g. by telephone, in person, or through mail or e-mail and the internet). I will identify common interview questions and demonstrate the ability to respond appropriately and effectively.

Health & Safety I will demonstrate an understanding of workplace health and safety rules. I will be able to articulate the appropriate use of safety equipment, including fire extinguishers and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Rights & Responsibilities I understand the school and placement expectations that I am to achieve in the cooperative education course. I will demonstrate an understanding of placement-specific workplace health & safety considerations.

I will demonstrate an understanding of the need for personal protective equipment, including goggles, gloves, boots, and aprons.

I will demonstrate an understanding of issues relating to confidentiality and the right to privacy, as outlined in the Freedom of Information and Protection or Privacy Act.

I will demonstrate an understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA).

I will demonstrate an understanding of work ethics and the responsible use of information technology.

I will demonstrate the correct handling of materials and equipment as specified in the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Training Program.

I will demonstrate an understanding of the individual’s right to function in a climate free from abuse and harassment.

I will demonstrate an understanding of the coverage provided by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIB).

I will demonstrate knowledge of relevant sections of the Employment Standards Act and the Human Rights Act.

I will be able to articulate the procedures for reporting accidents.

I will demonstrate an understanding of the history and role of labour unions.

I will be able to articulate the procedures for reporting unsafe practices.
