spot the difference We change and we grow Are you the same ‘me’ as you were when you were born? Yes … and no. As we grow older lots of things about us change. The way we look, the things we like, the way we act and the things we think about are changing — but some things will still stay the same.
Look at Ruby's baby photo. Now look at her most recent photo. • Think of all the differences that you can see now she is eight. • Think of all the differences you can’t see (example: now she learns karate). • What might have stayed the same?
explore! Growing Up 1. Baby photo match up Have a look at the baby photos of people in your class or family. • Are you able to spot who is who? • What made it easy/hard to tell? • Would you like to be a baby forever? Why?/Why not? • Do all living things change and grow? How? • Does everybody grow at the same time and in the same way? • Can you think of something that never changes? • Do we ever stop growing? 2. Fact file Find out more about the day you or someone you know were born and how you/they have grown. Try asking a carer or family member some of these questions. • Birth date? • Place of birth? • Weight at birth? • What did I/they eat and drink as a baby? • Favourite food then? Has that changed? • Favourite toy then? Has this changed? 3. I am growing - drama activity When the teacher touches you with the magic wand they will turn you into a baby, a child, a parent, or a grandparent. Act out the role they give you to show how our actions, thinking and responsibilities might change as we grow older. 4. Growing plants Plant some seeds and watch them grow. Notice that not all plants grow at the same speed, just like we don’t all grow at the same rate.
