Order Of Service

The Obituary Erskin Plummer (Pete) Williams was born on August 12, 1932 (along with his twin brother the late Thurston Anthony Williams) to the late Harry Williams, Sr., and Alberta Williams in Warrenton, North Carolina. He attended the Warrenton County Public School system.

ORGAN PRELUDE

His attention was divided between school and hard work on the farm, while at the same time learning carpentry and masonry from his father, who was a carpenter. He loved to farm and build things.

HYMN

But as a young man his greatest passion was cars! He got one as soon as he was old enough to get a license. He spent his “spare” time working on and polishing his beloved car. There was never a time in his adult life when he did not have a car or two.

Plummer was saved and baptized at the Jerusalem Missionary Church in Warrenton, North Carolina as a young boy. He loved to sing! He, his cousins and some of the neighborhood boys formed a singing group called the Carolina Singers. They travelled the “local” circuit singing on programs that included professional singers like the Dixie Hummingbirds.

PRAYER OF COMFORT

Assistant Pastor Lisa Atkins

The farming industry began to dwindle in the late forties and early fifties, so Plummer moved to Brooklyn, New York and found work in a brick yard loading bricks onto trucks. In time he became a truck driver and began to dream of owning his own home. He married Lola Mae Kearney of North Carolina and from that union four children were born. He later had another son. Two of his sons, Hubie and Junior, preceded him in death. After his divorce from his wife, he became a single parent and some how he made it work while working long arduous hours.

REMARKS

After his father’s death, Pete a nick name that suited him, became the patriarch of the family. He was a “rock” for all of us. And all of us depended on him at some point in our lives. He was always there and he never complained. He never asked anybody for anything for himself. Pete the “rock”.

PROCESSIONAL OPENING INVOCATION (The Collect)

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving children: Donald, Christopher and Vanessa; Grandchildren: Lamel, Nakkia, Wonya, Demi, Des’mir, Tevon, and Jason; two brothers: Sandy (Shirley), Willie (Cindy); three sisters: Edna Northan (Clifton), Lena Alston, and Rev. Mary B. Williams and a host of nephews, nieces and friend. Lovingly submitted, The Family

It is Well With My Soul

Pastor and Founder

Plummer was an industrious, hardworking and determined man. In 1960, he finally bought his home. It became the place where family members stayed after they migrated North to find a better life. For more than thirty five years he shouldered the burdens of brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He was a tremendous blessing to the Williams Family. We are grateful. It would be remiss of us not to mention that Plummer loved to laugh. He was quick witted and a master of the quick come back. He was wise and sarcastic. What a lethal combination.
