LIFE MISSION PLAN God has a Life Mission for each of us. When you sit down to craft your Life Mission Plan be sure to get settled in a comfortable environment with as few distractions as possible, with a pen, some paper, and a Bible.
STEP 1: WRITE YOUR LIFE MISSION PLAN 1. Take a few minutes to read through some scripture to focus your heart and mind on God’s Word. • God has a purpose for everyone’s life: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 • As human beings we should focus on God’s goals for us: “Jesus answered: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-40 • Three times Jesus’ identified his life purpose (Mark 10:45; Luke 19:10; John 10:10). Our purpose may be bound up with his. “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21 2. Consider the following questions: •
What will I CENTER my life around? “Jesus answered: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.” Matthew 22:37-38
•
Have I defined WHO I want to BE, not just WHAT I want to Do? “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4:22-24
•
What will I INVEST my life in besides me? “God has given each of you some special abilities. Be sure to use them to help each other, passing on to others God’s many kinds of blessings.” 1 Peter 4:10
Using the space below, write down what you believe God is trying to tell you about your Life Mission. SAMPLE: I exist to worship God, love my wife and Kids, and tell everyone I can about Jesus’ saving grace. Go to heaven and take as many people with me as I can.
MY LIFE MISSION PLAN:
STEP 2: ESTABLISH YOUR CORE VALUES These are the things you will stand for and be recognized by. List the areas in your life that are very important to you. These areas may include your family, faith, relationships, health, finances, community service, career, and others. Once these areas are identified, prioritizes from most important to least important. SAMPLES: Be a man of character. I will do what is right, as defined by God, regardless of the cost. (Psalm 15) Practice the spiritual disciplines on a daily basis. Always seek the Holy Spirits leading. (John 14:26) Be held accountable by other Godly men and seek counsel frequently and thoughtfully. (Proverbs 27:17; 15:22) Everything I have is God’s. I will give an increasing portion of all God has given me to manage here on earth to the church 1st and then other worthy causes. (Acts 20:35) My marriage will be an example of that laid out in Scripture. I will be a one-woman man, seeking the growth of my wife. I will assist her in the duties of our household, date her regularly and be a spiritual leader. (Ephesians 5:25) I will share Jesus with people in my center of influence and I will seek mission opportunities outside my center of influence to help fulfill the great commission. (Matthew 28:19-20)
MY CORE VALUES:
STEP 3: ESTABLISH YOUR GOALS Decide on a few aspirational but realistic goals, with broad applicability, that will grow you to maturity. Your life plan considers all of the different areas in your life that are important to you. To maintain a healthy balance, you should determine your priorities and then focus on those that are most important to you. This plan is designed to help you establish and achieve your life goals.
YEARLY GOALS: If appropriate, choose a focus area for your year. INSTRUCTIONS: Category: Chose some areas in your life that need focus this year: evangelism, family, health, financial, work, church, serving, etc. You choose; just make sure there is some balance. Specific GOALS: Make your goals SMART. • Specific (State exactly what you want to accomplish) • Measurable (How will you know you met the goal?) • Attainable (Challenging, yet not unrealistic) • Relevant (Does this goal align with your life mission and values?) • Time bound (what is the deadline? Example – “by Nov. 30th” or “Every week” Scoring: Don’t wait until the end of the year to see how you are doing. Invite accountability and track your progress throughout the year. • Q1 = January – March; Q2 = April – June; Q3 = July – September; Q4 = October – December • 1 = completed goal; .5 = partially completed; 0 = not completed
