Working in front loops only, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc. Turn. Working in rem loops, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc. Join with sl st to first sc. 8 sc. 2nd to 21st rnds: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Beg working in rows: 1st row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 4 sc. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked. 2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc across. Turn. 4 sc. 3rd row: Ch 1. (Sc2tog) twice. Turn. 2 sts. 4th row: Ch 1. Sc2tog. Turn. 5th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first st. Fasten off. FINISHING Sew button to bottom of Pencil Holder as shown in picture.

Twisted Cord: Cut 2 strands of yarn 75" [190.5 cm] long. With both strands tog, hold one end and with someone holding other end, twist strands to the right until they begin to curl. Fold the 2 ends tog and tie in a knot so they will not unravel. The strands will now twist themselves tog. Sew to top of pencil holder as shown in picture.
