Little League All-Stars 2017 The little league season is flying by and believe it or not all-stars are upon us. There have been a few changes made by Little League International this year and we hope this helps explain the process better. By this point many, if not all, of you have received a form from your coaches to express your interest in participating in this program. This form needs to be completed either way and returned to your coach as soon as possible. Without this form your child will not be considered for a team. T-ball(baseball and softball): There is no all-star program for this age division Minors(machine pitch)(baseball and softball): There is no little league recognized all-star program for this age, however, there is a post season tournament that is put on by our neighboring district that we participate in. Baseball will have one or two teams and softball will have one team. Baseball team selection will take place on June 1st. Softball selection is still to be determined. This tournament will run from June 19th-June 26th. Locations for this tournament are still to be determined but are usually relatively local (Schoolcraft, Mattawan). Families should be prepared for some travel in case sites end up being further away. 8/9/10(Little Majors) (Baseball and softball) This is the first Little League recognized age bracket. Teams will compete locally and winning teams can advance as far as the state tournament held in Taylor Michigan for baseball and Van Buren for softball. Players that are league age 8-10 are eligible for this team. Baseball team selection will be on May 31st. Softball team selection is to be determined and this division will hold a tryout date. 9/10/11(Baseball only) Teams will compete locally and can advance to the state level. This state tournament will be held in Schoolcraft Michigan. Players league age 9-11 and playing in at least little majors are eligible for this tournament. Player selection for this division will be on Tuesday May 30th. 10/11/12 (Majors) (Baseball and Softball) Teams in this division will compete locally and can advance to the Little League World Series held in Williamsport, PA. for baseball and Portland, Oregon for softball. The state tournament for baseball will be held in Gladstone Michigan and for softball in St.Clair Michigan. Players
that are league age 10-12 are eligible for this tournament. Player selection for baseball will be held on May 30th. Player selection for softball will be coordinated through West Portage Little League. 12/13/14 (Juniors) (Baseball only) Teams in this division will compete locally with the state tournament being held in Charlevoix Michigan and culminating in the world series held in Taylor Michigan. Players that are league age 12-14 are eligible for this team. Team selection date is to be determined.
The minor division fun for all teams will be required to provide a copy of their child’s birth certificate, which we should already have on file, to participate in this tournament. Players in all other divisions will be required to provide three(3) proofs of residency dated between Feb of 2016 and Feb of 2017. A player must meet the minimum playing requirement of 60% of their schedule(with at least 12 games scheduled). This can be a tricky number and if you are concerned that your child has not made that requirement please see your coach. All-star season is extremely fast paced and will require an extensive time commitment. Practices will begin after June 1st and can be up to six nights a week. These practices may be late in the evening after regularly scheduled games have concluded. Failure to be at practices could result in your removal from a team. In addition to this, games are scheduled in a bracket formation and based on team performance could be on back to back nights. Please be sure that your schedule has the flexibility to accommodate this. There will be some additional cost to families for these tournaments in the form of fees for an all-star/ special games uniform. If selected for a team your coach will review this information with you. There is also a possibility of South Portage hosting some of the local tournament games. It is always nice to have that home field advantage but we will need your help to make that happen. If we do host games, we will require each family to help staff the concession stand or work in the scoring tower keeping the book,
running the scoreboard and possibly announcing. More information on that will follow as they are determined by the district.
We are excited to put these teams together and have another fun all-star/ special games post-season. Thank you.
