MINORITY TEACHER AND ADMINISTRATOR RECRUITMENT PLA Junction City School District September 12, 2017 The Junction City School District will maintain its effort to recruit employ, and promote qualified minorities for teaching and administrative positions. The school system will continue to advertise teaching and administrative positions in the £1 Dorado New-Times, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, and Shreveport Times. Job openings will be placed in newspapers in north Louisiana, west Mississippi, central and south Arkansas. Job openings will be advertised with the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Grambling State University, Southern Arkansas University, and Louisiana Tech University, and Henderson State University. In addition, job openings are posted on the AAEA job database. The recruitment committee will continue to meet during the school year 2017-2018 to redesign and update recruitment material and other recruitment information. Universities and colleges were notified of teacher vacancies. Universities and colleges will be notified each year of vacancies. The Minority Recruitment Committee will participate in the screening and interviewing of minority professionals. A file for recruitment purposes will be kept in the central administrative offices to establish a minority pool of applicants. District personnel will attend job fairs this school year held at: Grambling State University. Grambling, Louisiana; Henderson State University, Arkadelphia. Arkansas; Louisiana Tech University. Ruston, Louisiana; and South Arkansas University, Magnolia, Arkansas. The high school counselor has provided and continues to provide information about available scholarships for minorities wishing to pursue a degree in teaching. The school counselor will continue to provide information for students and parents needing financial aid. The high school students will participate in a College and Career Night during the 20172018 school year. Career Development is a course offered where students explore careers in education as well as other fields. South Arkansas Community College and South Arkansas University provide information about the 2+2 teaching program to high school seniors interested in pursuing a career in teaching. The Junction City School District will follow the steps listed in the district plan to recruit, employ, and promote qualified minorities. William R. Lowe, superintendent, and Rebekah L. West, equity coordinator, will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring activities and making recommendations necessary for reaching our goals.
