Peer Coach 2017-2018 Position Description POSITION SUMMARY: Peer Coaches are experienced University of South Florida St. Petersburg students who serve on the staff of the Compass First-Year Experience Office. As student staff members, Peer Coaches work with a team of professional staff members to provide educational and leadership development opportunities for the USFSP student body. Peer Coaches provide guidance for First Time in College students to succeed at USFSP through one-on-one coaching, academic workshops, and engaging programs.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: This position reports to the First-Year Experience Coordinators and is a year-long commitment for up to 10-hours per week. POSITION DUTIES:  Support all initiatives for the Compass First-Year Experience Office  Serve as a Peer Coach for 25-35 First-Year Students  Attend and actively participate in a weekly Spring Semester training and development  Attend and actively participate in a weekly Fall Semester staff meeting  Meet 1:1 each week with the Program Coordinator  Meet with each assigned first year student one-on-one at least once a month to assist with the transition to college  Meet with assigned first year students as a group at least once a month to assist with the transition to college in every way possible  Create a detailed agenda following the Peer Coach Curriculum to use for all student meetings  Inform the programming team of programmatic ideas based off of First-Year student needs  Meet once a month with a Peer Coach Leader to check-in on progress  Complete 3-5 Office Hours per week which can include meeting with students in the office, assisting with program planning, staffing the Compass front desk, and any other duties as assigned by a Compass staff member  Complete required reporting to update Compass Staff on Peer Coach and student progress  Other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:         

Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at USFSP Must be in good judicial standing Must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.5 GPA or higher Available to attend all training dates Available to commit to this position for multiples semesters which could include: Spring, Summer, Fall, and the following Spring semester Consistently check and respond to emails Experience and familiarity with the campus resources at USFSP Works successfully with individuals of all backgrounds and abilities as well as possesses a commitment to working with diverse populations, identities, and experiences Ability to work in a team oriented environment with the support of professional staff

Computer skills including the Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft programs, and web design software Desire to create inventive and memorable experiences for first-year students, families, and university community Willingness to collaborate with the USFSP and St. Petersburg community Demonstrates exceptional organizational and time management skills Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and develop productive relationships Ability to communicate with various constituencies such as staff, faculty, students, etc. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally

APPLICATION PROCESS: The Peer Coach application and interview process will take place every Spring semester. Applications may open at other various times throughout the academic year at the discretion of the supervisor. Applications will open on PeteSync. The application may include reference contact information, reference letters, resume, and/or submission of a transcript. After review of applications, selected applicants will be invited to interview with the selection committee and hear notice of acceptance of denial of position thereafter.
