MELBOURNE RECITAL CENTRE PRESENTS
Love Songs with Kate Ceberano & Paul Grabowsky WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Love Songs sees two of Australia’s most renowned and respected artists join forces to perform stripped-back interpretations of some of the greatest love songs from the last 50 years. The program includes songs by John Lennon, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Joan Armatrading, Leonard Cohen, The Carpenters, Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello. Kate Ceberano is Australia's high priestess of pop, an award winning jazz singer, a fine artistic director and a songwriter with the talent to take a tune to the top of the charts with five Platinum albums, five Gold albums and over 1.5 million albums sold in Australia alone. In 2014, Ceberano was inducted into the Australian Songwriters Hall of Fame, joining fellow Australian icons Stevie Wright (The Easybeats), Russell Morris, Graeham Goble (Little River Band), Steve Kilbey (The Church), Richard Clapton and The Angels. Paul Grabowsky is a pianist, composer, arranger, conductor, and one of Australia’s most distinguished artists. He is the founder and Artistic Director of the Australian Art Orchestra and his contribution to Australian jazz is vast and deep. Grabowsky has won four ARIA awards, two Helpmann awards, several Bell Awards and a Deadly award, with his most recent recording ‘The Bitter Suite’ winning ‘Best Jazz Album’ at both the ARIA awards and the AIR awards. Kate Ceberano and Paul Grabowsky have not worked so intimately as a duo since their legendary heydays together at the Continental in Prahran in 1996. For this concert they have chosen a selection of love songs that they connect with on a deeply emotional level and the influence these songs have had on their personal and professional lives.
