LUCY HURDS PERSONAL BIO Lucy grew up in Herefordshire and went to school in Ross-onWye, Lugwardine and Hereford Sixth Form College. She is married to Jim and her 3 children were born in Hereford, where they all still live along with her 3 grandsons. She first became involved in politics when, as a concerned mother, she became aware of the lack of money for local schools and education.

CAMPAIGN RECORD ● “HANDS UP FOR HEREFORDSHIRE” - Lucy led a countywide campaign to improve education funding which included a day of action in March 2010. Displays were set up in Hereford, Rosson-Wye, Bromyard and Kington. Hands decorated by thousands of local children represented all those short-changed by Central Government. A petition with thousands of signatures was later presented to the School Minister. Since then, funding for Herefordshire schools has improved but the campaign continues. ● “FAIRER FUNDING FOR RURAL AREAS” - Compared to councils with similar sized populations in urban areas, rural counties have much larger areas and more infrastructure to maintain, but receive a lot less money. Lucy has been campaigning for a fairer funding formula and has met with ministers. She has also brought government advisors to Hereford and has helped Herefordshire Council raise £43million from the government for local projects.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE ● For 20 years, Lucy has worked as a consultant for local small business providing advice and support. ● She has also worked for a local educational charity, Sun Valley Foods and a newsagent in Tupsley, Hereford. ● She has contributed the rural perspective to the National Lib Dem Parliamentary Team and in 2010 stood for the neighbouring seat of North Herefordshire where she achieved the biggest swing from the Conservatives in the West Midlands.

“I will continue to fight as a local voice for Herefordshire and will be able to do this in a more effective way if I am elected as your next MP.”
