Lynn University is an independent, co-educational, lushly landscaped 115-acre campus in South Florida with an expressed need to redevelop its current master plan configuration in order to achieve many of the academic goals of the university. The Lynn University Master Plan will integrate elements that ensure economic, social, and environmental sustainability and bring them together to create a vibrant and dynamic campus. Energy efficiency and the integration of an ecological preserve into the landscape palette of the campus are key objectives. Water use reduction, especially for irrigation, as well as a comprehensive waste and recycling plan are also targets in the development of a new environmental vision for the University. Buro Happold’s scope of work includes energy and carbon benchmarking analyses of the existing facilities, and energy audits to inform the future master plan and infrastructure changes. Existing facilities analysis of all energy and infrastructure systems include electric, chilled water, gas, back-up generation, potable water supply, foul drainage, storm drainage and waste management provides an inventory of all facilities and the first comprehensive record of distribution, connections to municipal services, wellfield protection zones and easements. Building on this analysis are a number of unique and appropriate opportunities for the university to improve performance, reduce cost and provide unique social benefits to staff and students. These include cogeneration, solar thermal energy, reclaimed water systems and development of an environmental policy with specific goals and targets.
