1. ANALYSIS of 2005/2006, 2006/2007, 2007/2008 Fall Admissions: 1.1. Applicants with complete applications: # increased 2005 to 2007 by over 20% (84 to 106). 1.2. ACCEPTED: 1.2.1. ANALYSIS: PREFACE - Estimate ≥ 3.67 GPA & ≥ 31 MCAT accepted to professional school; either will not apply to BMS or accepted to BMS but then decline BMS. Influences BMS GPA & MCAT. 1.2.1.1. # Accepted Applicants: Increased year to year by over 10%. 1.2.1.2. GPA: 1.2.1.2.1. Average undergraduate ≈ 3.3; no significant change. 1.2.1.2.2. 1st Quartile ≈ ≥3.5; no appreciable change in any quartile. 1.2.1.3. MCAT: 1.2.1.3.1. Average cumulative MCAT ≈ 27 (57-63%tile); no significant change. 1.2.1.3.2. 1st Quartile ≈ ≥29 (≥ 69-74%tile); no appreciable change in any quartile. 1.2.2. CONCLUSION: No significant change in GPA or MCAT of accepted applicants 1.3. MATRICULANTS: 1.3.1. CONCLUSION: For Fall 2007, no significant difference of average GPA or MCAT of 74 matriculants from 106 accepted applicants; 74/106 = 70% matriculated. 2. NUMBER of APPLICANTS; many factors are likely to influence. 2.1. BMS promotional materials: History word of mouth. 2.1.1. 2007 BMS Flyer. 2.1.1.1. To medical and dental school admissions offices and to Pre-Med/Dent advisors @ regional undergraduate institutions. 2.2. Admissions to MD- and DO-track medical, dental, etc schools: As their # of applicants increase more will be denied because of relatively fixed # openings & MORE apply to BMS. 2.3. Publicized need for more Physicians, Osteopaths, Dentists, etc. 3. FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS: 3.1. # BMS students: Setting limit would increase effort for application evaluation. 3.2. Academic credentials: increase from 3.00 GPA &/or impose MCAT/DAT/… minimum.

Student progress in the BMS curriculum: The following table details the academic results over recent terms; the average number of earned cumulative credit hours in the analyzed terms is over 20.

Earned Cumulative GPA (through the specified term) Term ‘04 Fall ‘05 Winter ‘05 Fall ’06 Winter ‘06 Fall ‘07 Winter ‘04F to ‘07W # Enrolled 120 108 130 104 109 99 Normalized for # enrolled Average 3.24 3.29 3.33 3.42 3.38 3.27 3.32 ± Std Dev ± 0.59 ± 0.65 Quartile 1st ≥ 3.67 ≥ 3.65 ≥ 3.70 ≥ 3.77 ≥ 3.83 ≥ 3.71 ≥ 3.72 2nd ≥ 3.45 ≥ 3.35 ≥ 3.40 ≥ 3.48 ≥ 3.52 ≥ 3.39 ≥ 3.43 rd 3 ≥ 3.06 ≥ 3.06 ≥ 3.08 ≥ 3.14 ≥ 3.07 ≥ 3.03 ≥ 3.08 1) PROGRESS in BMS CURRICULUM: ANALYSIS a) GPA Average: Some term-to-term variation; within overall ‘04F to ‘07W 3.32 average (normalized for # enrolled). b) GPA distribution by Quartile: Some term-to-term variation; within overall ‘04F to ‘07W minimums in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quartiles (normalized for # enrolled). c) BMS GPAs ≥ A- (minus) ≥ 3.67 range: Approximately 25% or 25 individuals. i) Potentially contribute positively to highly competitive MD-track medical school applications. d) BMS GPAs ≥ B+ (plus) ≥ 3.33 range: Approximately another 25% or 25 individuals. i) Potentially contribute positively to highly competitive DO-track or DDS applications. e) BMS GPAs of ≤ 3.00: Approximately 10-15% or 10-15 individuals. i) A ≤ 3.00 GPA results in academic probation status. Locked out from registration without PoW & Graduate Officer Approval. Some drop-out; perhaps realize their outcome in BMS curriculum will not enable them to gain acceptance to their ideal career goal. ii) Three consecutive terms of ≤ 3.00 GPA result in termination from BMS Program (3 terms allows them to repeat BMS CORE course/s for 1st academic probation term; 4 following winter 2007 term. f) Drop-out from BMS curriculum without accomplishing BMS degree: Besides above dropping-out for inadequate academic progress, some drop-out because gain acceptance to their ideal career goal for which having the MS in BMS degree awarded was not a prerequisite. i) Evidence WSU Medical School admissions of students from BMS curriculum. (1) # BMS students matriculated without MS in BMD degree, at least: 2007 = 8/18, 2006 = 11/19, 2005 = 3/15, 2004 = 6/13; cumulative 28/65 or 43%. 2) FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS: # BMS students: Faculty, rooms, and room capacity for classes of concern; may necessitate limiting.
