Langtang Lirung. A post-monsoon expedition from the Turin section of the Italian Alpine Club was organized to celebrate the first century of the Club. Its objective was Langtang Lirung (23,770 feet), twice un­ successfully attempted by the Japanese. The members were Lino Andreoletti, leader, Andrea Mellano, Giovanni Brignole, Dino Rabbi, Alberto Risso, Giorgio Rossi, Dr. Guido Rossa, and C. Volante. After climbing two peaks about 23,000 feet high, they began the ascent of Lirung, reach­ ing about 20,000 feet when Rossi and Volante fell, probably because of rockfall. Rossi died immediately and Volante a few days later in Base Camp. The expedition gave up the attempt and returned to Italy. P ie t r o M e c ia n i,
