Speeding and Signage There are well sign-posted maximum speed limits for motorists throughout the Estate, please adhere to them accordingly: • Vaillant Boulevard: 40 km/h (forty kilometers per hour) • All other streets: 30 km/h (thirty kilometers per hour) • Schonenberg Retirement Village: 20 km/h (twenty kilometers per hour). Please note: Cyclists also need to respect these speed limits to prevent accidents. The HOA has also introduced traffic calming measures, such as speed-humps and pedestrian crossings, for everybody’s safety - especially children and elderly people. Please stick to the rules and prevent an accident from happening. We thank you in advance for your full support and cooperation.

Did You Know? For both stopping distances and the severity of crashes, speed matters. Travelling at 40 mph, the average driver who sights a pedestrian in the road 100 feet ahead will still be travelling 38 mph on impact: driving at 25 mph, the driver will have stopped before the pedestrian is struck. Relationship of Vehicle Speed to Odds of Pedestrian Death in Collision
Vehicle Speed 30 Kph 50 Kph 65 Kph
Odds of Pedestrian Death 5% 45% 85%

The removal of grids from the Estate, or removing grids from one place to another on the Estate is strictly forbidden. If you are in need of a grid at the entrance of your house or driveway, please contact Stephanie (Asset Care Maintenance Administrator) on PABX 1204 to find out the costs involved.

Wildlife Protection Recently, we had an incident involving guinea fowl chicks, known as keets, which fell through a grid into a stormwater pipe. When keets fall into an outflow, they cannot get out. Security has been trying to assist the birds to get out, but alas they keep on falling back into the hole. The guinea fowl mother hen breeds in the area of Thunberg Avenue and Cole Street, where this manhole is situated. Please be aware of this situation and if you do see a guinea keet fall into the manhole, please help the bird to safety. Also, report the incident to the HOA office so that we can make an arrangement to cover the manhole until the birds are big enough to fend for themselves. The only problem is that if and when it rains, the manhole could get blocked. However, it would only be a temporary arrangement.
14
Security Currently, there are new cameras being installed at both the Main Gate and Waterstone Gate for access control purposes. The work should be completed on Monday, 29th February 2016. Following this job, cameras will be installed on the eastern, southern and western boundary fences of the Estate.

Garden Tips For March With the coming of autumn it’s time to start preparing our winter gardens. •
Start thinking about planting winter flowering bulbs. Lovely veld beauties like Ixia, Babiana, Freesia, Tritonia and Chincherinchees. Wait until it is much cooler and the first winter rains have fallen before planting them. If you do buy them earlier, store them in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator and plant when the temperatures drop.
• Raise the height of mower blades as winter approaches and growth slows down. •
As the leaves start to fall, clean out gutters and drains to prevent blockages. Be sure to rake leaves on the grass to prevent fungal diseases.
• Most summer flowers will be over and need to be pulled out. Dig in compost and superphosphate or bone meal at the recommended application rates. • Why not add Leonotis leonurus (wild dagga) to your garden. It is a fast and easy-growing shrub that flowers profusely and attracts birds, bees and butterflies. 16
