Understanding Your Real Property Rights in Michigan March 5-7, 2015 Four Seasons Hotel Austin, Texas The Real Property Law Section is pleased to announce that the 2015 Winter Conference will be held in Austin at the Four Seasons Hotel. Enjoy the resort-like haven in downtown Austin set on the banks of Lady Bird Lake, and steps away from Austin’s central business and entertainment districts.
Whether assisting with the sale or acquisition of real estate, representing a lender on a mortgage loan, or dealing with property disputes, today’s real estate practitioner must have a firm grasp of the rights and responsibilities of property owners and others with potential interests in real property, and be able to competently navigate the many issues they will face along the way. The recent increase in oil and gas exploration, and emergence of alternative energy, has only increased the amount of legal issues Michigan real estate lawyers encounter in their every day practice. The program for the 2015 RPLS Winter Conference will feature a local oil and gas expert who will explore the history of oil and gas exploration in Texas, discuss the many property rights issues Texas practitioners face when dealing with oil, gas and alternative energy developments, and share insights into how Texas lawyers have dealt with the many challenges that these types of developments present. As a complement to the Texas presentation, a leading oil and gas lawyer in Michigan will address energy development rights in Michigan and provide practical guidance for how to properly deal with oil, gas and alternative energy legal issues. An expert panel of Michigan real estate attorneys will navigate their way through a series of fact patterns involving myriad issues related to real property disputes and discuss how best to resolve those issues, from how to properly document property interests, to dealing with a lender, to potentially pursuing litigation to resolve intractable disputes. This program will also include a joint presentation from a title insurance attorney and a surveyor who will take us through the many title and survey issues that arise when competing property interests are involved.
