A LESSON FOR ALL OF US TODAY Mothers Day 05.14.17 II Kings 4:8 - 10 As we celebrate Mothers Day, I want you to pray for my mother is sick in Kenya. I thank my wife Christine is home! Most moms live very busy lives. Constantly on the go! Moms are on the go! Have you ever noticed how much a Mom will want to move furniture around in a house? When all seems to be OK for you? Moms love to spruce up the place and make it more inviting. Let’s look closer at this scripture. We see Elisha visiting the home of a stranger in an unknown town known as Shunem. This woman lived on the very busy road that ran between Carmel and Samaria. This Shunamite woman sensed the presence of God on Elisha and started arranging things. The Shunamite woman’s life would never be the same after she (literally) MADE ROOM FOR GOD that day. Elisha was used by God to minister to the Shunammite woman. Don’t purposely ignore God’s presence. The problem is we may know He is near, but don’t always do anything about it. We often say, “Maybe on another day.” Shunamite woman was a prominent, wealthy, notable, well-to-do woman. She sensed the presence of God pass by and decided to make some fresh bread, and set it in her window where Elisha could see it. “…she constrained him to eat bread.” The Shunamite woman told her husband, “I perceive that this is a holy man of God…” When you sense the real presence of God, it won’t matter what is going on. Jesus is The King of Kings, the Lord of Lords. Invite Jesus into your house. As in John 14 – Jesus is the way, and the truth, and life. The Shunamite woman realized that everything she owned belonged to God. She knew what to give Elisha. This mother reminds us to open our hearts to the Lord and serve Him with what we have! It can be Bread or …! The Rev. Dr. George Okusi – Vicar, 5/14/2017 at 8:00am and 10:15pm
