MANAGE A LOCAL GOVERNMENT PROJECT This two day course is designed to introduce fundamental project management principles and techniques for specific applications to local government related work. While the course was developed with Road Safety issues in mind, the content is appropriate for all local government staff who are interested in the successful planning, implementation and evaluation of project work. Upon completion of this course it is expected that participants should be able to: • Understand and implement the principles of project management • Define what a project is with a focus on the local government context • Develop a comprehensive project plan • Determine resource requirements including cost management • Determine and manage risk • Consult and communicate with project stakeholders • Plan, implement and evaluate projects in accordance with organisational policies and relevant legislations • Manage implementation including comprehensive recording and reporting mechanisms • Evaluate the project

MANAGE A LOCAL GOVERNMENT PROJECT STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT Participants who successfully undertake assessment associated with this course will receive a statement of attainment for the following unit of competency from the Local Government Training Package: LGACOMP025 Manage a Local Government Project. This unit of competency can be used as a building block towards Certificate IV and Diploma level Local Government qualifications. PRESENTER: RUSSELL BURKE Russell Burke’s 27 years of engineering experience has resulted in a high-level of expertise in the management of road, bridge, buildings and water supply infrastructure.This has been achieved utilising specialist skills in project management, specialist knowledge in asset management systems and specialist judgment in risk management and contract management. This breadth of experience includes over 17 years working as a technical specialist consultant/adviser in developing countries in the South Pacific and Asia. Currently working at Eurobodalla Shire Council as Senior Projects Engineer managing a range of projects including Street-scaping, bridges, buildings, RMCC projects, subdivisions and coordinating training of works officers in Certificate 3 Local Government Operations, Certificate 4 Civil Construction Supervision and Diploma in Civil Construction management. Russell’s previous experience includes working for Gosford City Council, Kogarah Municipal Council, Burwood Municipal Council, Ryde City Council and Ku-ring-gai Municipal Council Russell has worked in developing countries for Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) which include Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands, Cambodia, Vanuatu.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND The program is designed to introduce fundamental project management principles and techniques to local government practicioners including Engineers, Works Officers, Road Safety Officers, Design or construction staff working in the field or office and all local government staff who are responsible for project management.
