FOREST VIEW NEWS Summer Term - Issue 6 – June 2016 Well hasn’t this year just flown by? Cannot believe we are in the final half term of this academic year! Here is the plan for the Summer 2 term. Staffing Due to additional numbers of pupils and the success of the small class organisation in Year 6 I am delighted to announce that we have appointed Miss Marshall and Mr Latkowski on a permanent basis and will also be appointing a new class teacher to complement our fantastic team! Mrs Kidd has also joined our Support Staff team and we are planning to appoint another Teaching Assistant by the end of this academic year. Mrs McClymont has now returned to school from maternity leave for three days per week. I am pleased to announce that we will be having three Year 6 classes in September to give the children the best possible chance of meeting the demands of the primary curriculum. No doubt you will have also noticed we have a new Site Manager. Mr Turner has made a great start to life at Forest View – I am sure you agree the school is looking fantastic. Mrs Dawson will be leaving us at the end of the school year to embark on a new challenge. We will be sorry to see Mrs Dawson leave as she has been a fantastic member of the Forest View team but we wish her all the best for the future.

Year 6 SATs I am so proud of the Year 6s. The way they handled the pressure with such confidence and team spirit made me extremely proud indeed. The tests were much more challenging this year as they reflect the greater demands of the primary curriculum however, the children couldn’t have been any better prepared. Thank you to the children, staff and parents for all of your hard work.

Transition work with Maun Infants Transition between both schools is going from strength to strength. Year 2/3 have worked on various projects throughout this year and lots of transition activities are planned for this term. Transition week will start on Thursday, 30 June until Wednesday, 6 July. The children will be doing lots of exciting activities including: Drumming, work in the Forest and Wildlife areas, as well as lots of opportunity for the current Year 2s to spend time in their new classrooms. After taking on board the views of parents we have also planned for the Year 2s to have lunch at Forest View for three consecutive days. I will also be meeting with Miss Norman (new Head Teacher at Maun Infants from September 2016) this half term to discuss further opportunities for working together.

Parents Group The Parents group meet at Forest View every Thursday afternoon in the Community Room and everyone is welcome to come along. The work they have done for our school has been invaluable and they are always looking for people to help and support so feel free to come along.

Queens 90th Birthday Celebrations I had a very productive meeting with Reverend Zoe Burton this week and promised I would inform you of the upcoming events. This weekend there will be lots happening at St Paulinus Church to celebrate the Queens 90th birthday. There will be flower arrangements from 10-5pm on Saturday and 1-5pm on Sunday. Cream teas will be served in the hall next door, which will be on a first come first served basis (once everyone who has tickets have been). Songs of Praise will also take place on the Sunday. On Friday, 1 July at 7pm there will also be a service at St Giles Church to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ‘Battle of the Somme.’

Enterprise Fortnight I am delighted to announce we will be holding our third Enterprise event at Forest View. Each class will think of a product or service, and will then be given a loan of £50 to cost, make and advertise it. We will then have a Trade Fair where each class will organise and run a stall to sell their product or service. The Trade Fair will be open to our parents/carers and the local community and prizes will be awarded based on the most profit made and the most innovative product or service.

We are aiming to improve the children’s’ knowledge of the business world and many of their personal skills and attributes through Enterprise fortnight, for example team work, problem solving, planning ahead and resilience. Enterprise Fortnight will begin as part of Transition week and will continue the first full week back in September. The Trade Fair will take place on Friday, 9 September from 3:30 – 4:30pm in the School Hall. Please feel free to come along and support your child / class as all profit made will go back to each class to spend.

Year 6 performance Our Year 6 performance of ‘The Tempest’ will take place on Monday, 18 July. There will be a 2pm and 6pm performance and a letter going out shortly with more details.
