SEAHAWKS’ 2017 SEASON UNDERWAY With the Northeast Conference opener coming up this Monday (rescheduled due to inclement weather), the Seahawks enter conference play with a 6-15 record, with wins over Southern Utah University, Utah Valley University, and sweeps of Manhattan College and Rider University. Wagner Softball opened their season at Elon University in North Carolina, and spent Spring Break in Cedar City, Utah and Orem, Utah. Not only was this the program’s first trip out West in years, but during the trip, Wagner faced its first ranked opponent in years, playing #25 Karen Prihoda is congratulated by Brigham Young University in a double header. The Cougars teammates after a diving catch at BYU took game one with a score of 7-1, but the Seahawks battled back in game two, before a heartbreaking 7th inning walk-off by the Cougars. BYU took the game with a final score of 5-4. The remainder of the Green and White’s game schedule can be found on page 5 as well as WagnerAthletics.com. (Photos by Aaron Cornia)

SEAHAWKS USE HEALTHY MIX OF VETERANS AND ROOKIES TO GET JOB DONE The Seahawks will have their first shot at an NEC opponent on Monday, April 3rd at 12pm and 2pm, when they host Central Connecticut State at home. Leading the way for the team in her senior campaign is outfielder, Brianna Tredway. Tredway leads the team in batting average (.400) and runs batted in (12), is second on the team in slugging percentage (.500) and is tied for second on the team with 6 doubles. Sophomore and 2016 AllNEC selection, Karen Prihoda, is also a weapon for the Seahawks with a team-leading 28 hits, 8 doubles, .577 slugging percentage, 14 runs, and 41 total bases. Prihoda also holds an impressive .394 batting average. Freshman Kaila Smith is making a name for herself as she leads the team in home runs and is just behind Tredway with 11 RBIs. Prihoda, as well as freshman outfielder Kat Holmes-Stall, are the only two Seahawks who have appeared in the starting line up of all 21 games played this season. The Green and White’s pitching staff is lead by Junior Morgan Brown, who has earned five of the Seahawks’ wins. (Photos by Aaron Cornia)

BEEHIVE STATE BRINGS NEW EXPERIENCES TO WAGNER SOFTBALL During the down time between the Beehive Classic hosted by Utah State University and a few midweek doubleheaders, Wagner Softball was able to slow down and take in the sights that Utah had to offer. Pictured left are the program’s five seniors, Hana Gilbert, Brianna Tredway, Gina Massaro, McKaleigh Goodale, and Aerika High enjoying their last Spring Break trip where the team visited Bridal Veil Falls. The team also took a trip to the Dixie National Forest (pictured below) where they saw incredible views of the surrounding mountain ranges. For most of the team, it was their first time in the state of Utah. The location of the tournament and games also made it an easier trip for many of our West Coast families. Big thank you to all Seahawk fans that made the journey to Utah to see the team compete!
