Marshmallow Force and Motion Experimentation Second grade students at Westside Elementary School used marshmallows of various sizes to experiment with force and motion. Students in Mrs. Jill Snow’s and Ms. Sandra Heathscott’s classes worked cooperatively to shoot marshmallows from a marshmallow shooter and recorded their results of which size and shape travel the furthest distance.

Deener’s Great Kindness Challenge Sidney Deener Elementary School students participated in the “Great Kindness Challenge” during the month of January. The challenge benefited the Ozark Water Project that provides affordable footwear and a cup of clean, fresh water for those who are in need in African countries. Students participated in
a shoe drive and donated worn shoes. At the end of the drive, prizes were awarded to the classes who collected the most. The Ozark Water Project gives these shoes a second life and the profits are used to purchase well-drilling rigs and other supplies. Way to go, Sidney Deener!

SHS National Honor Society Gives During Holidays The National Honor Society came together this holiday season to buy presents and bring Christmas cheer to a local family in need. The group also bought Christmas turkey breasts for all of the district’s computer technicians and maintenance crew. The students wanted to show appreciation for the work these crews do every day to keep their schools clean
and operational. Pictured is NHS sponsor Mrs. Sandy Webb and NHS member Darius Gavin at Wal-Mart purchasing the gifts for the family who benefited from this holiday project. Searcy School District is always proud of the giving spirit our students exhibit through the holiday season.
SHS Wrestling Team Wins Tournament The Searcy High School wrestling team hosted their Searcy Duals Tournament on Saturday, January 14. The team won first place over Bryant by 34 points in the final match, and the final score was 53-19. The district would like to congratulate the entire wrestling team for their impressive victory as well as Searcy wrestler Caleb Freeman for winning the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award in the

Deener Students get creative with Indoor Recess
As a result of a very rainy January, students had to spend a number of outdoor recesses indoors. Students in Mrs. Nicole Hughey’s class got creative during indoor recess by playing putt putt golf, bago, and participating in ring toss competitions. James Day is shown here (left) putting the golf ball during recess. Our teachers do an outstanding job of keeping our students active and engaged throughout the day.
