Mary Nell Gust is our Quilter of the Month for November. Mary Nell made this quilt about 10 years ago but has been quilting more steadily for the last 4‐5 years. She is a self‐taught quilter who learned to sew from her mother. Mary Nell loves to sew because she has lots of free time now that she is no longer working. Currently she is binding a pink & black quilt that is for her granddaughter, Kayla Joy. Mary Nell has no favorite technique or project because she is always trying new & different things. Hand sewing all her binding on the back is a must she admitted because she likes how it looks better than trying to sew it all at once by machine. Mary Nell is now retired after being a Sunshine teacher for 3 years and then teaching in the Head Start program for 17 years. Joe is Mary Nell’s husband and they have been married now for 52 years and have 5 children, John, Joseph, Janis, Jill and Jennifer, 17 grandkids, and 2 great‐grandchildren. The name of the quilt pictured is the 8 Point Pinwheel and was quilted by Mr. Johnson of Fort Frances. Thank you Mary Nell for being our Quilter of the month for November!
