PURPOSE Enhance City’s Gateway Corridors Establish distinct character, a “sense of place” Improve pedestrian connectivity Create a more predictable regulatory environment Provide options/recommendations to improve existing conditions within the ROW and guide future development
GOAL: STREET TREES, WIDER SIDEWALKS, AND STREET FURNISHINGS WORKING WITHIN EXISTING ROW: Limited to street lights, banners and knee walls Short-term option to improve aesthetics Reduction of lane widths necessary to achieve goal
GOAL: STREET TREES, WIDER SIDEWALKS, AND STREET FURNISHINGS IDEAL SCENARIO:
Planted landscape buffers, raised planters, wide sidewalks Reduction of lane widths and/or partnership with private property owners Full or partial elimination of center turn lane Primarily new development/redevelopment/capital projects
MEDIAN STUDY RECOMMENDATIONS Replace concrete medians with stamped concrete, pavers and, landscaping Incorporate additional landscaping in existing grassed medians Reduce bi-directional turn lanes, replace with vegetated medians or stamped asphalt where feasible
