May 14: Power Steering ...Guiding Organizational Effectiveness thru Change Management! . Seminar by our own Clyde Parker (SME Chapter 82 Chair Elect) in conjunction with the Piedmont APICS chapter http://www.triadapics.org/. The session at the Airport Mariott will last from 1:30 to 5:00pm. Cost and details via email
[email protected] There is an APICS meeting afterwards with a presentation on "The Shifting Trade Winds" by Jane Johnson, Government Relations Manager of Unifi. The cost of dinner and the APICS meeting will be included in the seminar fee.
May 16: SME Chapter 82 Regular Monthly Technical Meeting - FARO Demonstration 6:30 pm
We invite ASME members to join us for a joint meeting activity ..
Important to RSVP to John B.(
[email protected] ) no later than May 11 so he can arrange a meeting place large enough for the number of attendees. We will advise those who register of exact place for the meeting. We now expect Greensboro will be the most central site for the majority of our members. ( There will be no charge for the meeting. A $5 donation to help cover the cost of a light snack would be appreciated. )
FARO Information: The program will feature a demonstration of portable laser scanning and computerized measuring devices used for quality control and inspection, reverse engineering, dimensional data acquisition and reporting and CAD-to-Part analysis.
Featured Equipment : Faro Gage and Gage-Plus .. Feature up to .0004" or .0002" accuracy, a complete line of accessories, and requires no training. Convenient, fast and intuitive enough for shop floor personnel to use, the Gage
also provides 3-D graphical and tabular SPC reports for QC managers. FARO Laser ScanArm : Users can xcollect simple point variations with the Arm's hard probe, then laser scan (up to 19,200 ponts/sec) the sections requiring larger volumnes of data - without adding/removing attachments, untangling cabling, or needing a separate CMM to import data. It's the industries first ever 7-axis contact/non-contact measurment device with a fully integrated laser scanner. Platinum FaroArm : Available in 4 to 12 foot configurations, offers up to .0005" accuracy for inspection, reverse engineering and CAD-to-part-analysis. It's ideal for facitities needing GD&T and SPC output. Durable enough for harsh manufacturing environments, yet lighter than standard portable CMM's, it also includes extended-use, on-board batteries. Presenter: David O'Neal is a Regional Account Manager for FARO Technologies, Inc. based out of Richmond, VA . A graduate of Virginia Tech, David has a
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering. Topics Covered: ● Speeding up inspection processes with Laser Scanning. ● More extensive dimensional data speeding up troubleshooting ● Landing more business by offering reverse engineering services ● Faro Arm empowers every member of the manufacturing team to contribute to the quality initiative. ● What’s new with Faro: Rev2 Scanner nearly doubles the Accuracy and Improved reporting capability!
About the Company FARO TECHNOLOGIES, Inc. - The World’s Single Source for a Complete Line of Portable CAM2 Solutions With more than 10,800 installations and 4,900 customers globally, FARO Technologies remains the world’s single source for a complete line of portable CAM2 solutions. “As late as 1994, there was almost no technology to easily measure in three dimensions during the production process,” FARO CEO and Co-founder Simon Raab said. “On the hardware side, a solution was needed that could withstand difficult measurement environments. On the software side, a solution was needed that was intuitive enough for assemblers and machinists with little computer experience to use.” Since then, FARO Technologies and its international subsidiaries have designed, developed, and marketed software and portable, computerized measurement devices. The Company’s products allow manufacturers to perform 3-D inspections of parts and assemblies on the shop floor. This
helps eliminate manufacturing errors, and thereby increases productivity and profitability for a variety of industries in FARO's worldwide customer base. As the pioneering leader in the development of CAM2 systems and services for manufacturers, FARO holds 41 U.S. patents with associated foreign patents in fields of biomaterials, medical diagnostics, desalination and industrial measurement. FARO is ISO 9001 certified and ISO-17025 laboratory registered. ______________________________________________________________________________ __________________________ May - June "Lunch and Learn": We can again arrange for "Lunch and Learn" sessions at several locations in our Chapter area (as we have done before - for example in Graham, Winston-Salem and Statesville on successive days.) -- this time featuring: Bodycote Group .. is an international supplier of Thermal Processing, Testing, and Metallurgical Coatings with over 320 facilities in 36 countries. In addition to the standard heat treating services, Bodycote offers “Kolsterising” – a low temperature surface hardening process for austenitic stainless steels including 300 series and other treatable materials. The benefits obtained from the Kolsterising process include improving wear resistance and resistance to galling without causing changes in the shape or size of the components. The resulting surface hardness is equivalent to 70 - 74 HRc, and the process does not adversely effect the corrosion resistance of most base materials. Parts should be finish machined prior to Kolsterising and will not require further machining afterwards. The process does not cause distortion. This company has some very interesting new concepts that they can share with you if you are interested. You can take a look at them at their website http://www.bodycote.com We will only schedule this if sufficient interest is indicated. Please let John B. know if you would like us to set up a "lunch and learn" by Bodycote at a restaurant in your neighborhood. RSVP:
