May is national Electrical Safety Month, so there is no better time to brush up on your electrical safety knowledge. Here are few basic safety tips to remember: Look up for Lines - Before you begin any job, survey the situation and look up for overhead power lines. If power lines are in the area, always maintain at least 10 feet of distance between you and anything you may be touching and the lines. Stay Away from Fallen Wires - Always assume power lines are live and energized. If you see a downed power line, stay away and keep others away. Call 9-1-1 and your local power company immediately. Call Before You Dig - Protect yourself from potential underground power line dangers by calling 811 before any digging project to have underground lines marked. Copper Theft Kills - Stealing copper from electrical facilities can have deadly consequences and it is illegal. Report copper theft by calling 1-866-747-5845. Tree Trimming Safety - Customers should never attempt to trim trees that are near power lines. Instead, call your local power company for assistance. Circuit Breakers and Fuses - Routinely check and maintain your electrical fuse box to avoid overloaded circuits. Contact a licensed electrician for assistance. Electrical Cords and Sockets - Do not overload sockets and never run electrical cords under rugs or across doorways

The Murray County RSVP Volunteer Recognition Luncheon was held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 in the Artesian Hotel Ball Room. Forty eight volunteers and Advisory Council members enjoyed fun, fellowship and a delicious meal. Everyone left with a door prize and a bag of goodies. Susie Jolly was honored for having the most volunteer hours, in the county, with over 1500 hours. We are grateful for all the donations contributed by the merchants of Murray County, to Advisory Council Member Yvonne Holler for help in collecting the donations, and to the Artesian Hotel for the special event space and all their help and generosity.

Rena Payne June 27, 1942—May 17, 2014 I was deeply saddened at the news of the death of my dear friend, Rena Payne. Rena came to work for INCA Community services about 30 years ago as an Outreach Worker. Although in those years her title changed several times, her dedication to the community stayed the same. Rena made sure to take care of families in need with emergency services such as food, rent, utilities, clothing, toys, and transportation. There are many stories of her service to others; however, there is not enough room to tell them all. Although Rena was Rena, we love you hesitant to change, she could accomplish anything as soon as and we will miss seeing your face she put her mind to it. Computers were one of the biggest wondering why does it have to be this way. changes and challenges for her. However, once she got over It hurts so much because there’s nothing the fear, she could do almost anything on it. You could alwe can do or say ways count on her, and she was always there when you that can make you come back to stay. needed her. For those of us left behind, we will miss her spirit The good times we remember and smile. She may have been short in height, but her voice and the days spent together could always be heard. Rena was born in Scotland and never will be in our memories forever. lost her Scottish accent. Rena’s dedication, devotion, and love for people There is one thing that’s plain to see will live in the hearts of her friends and in the lives of those that one day we will see each other again she touched. She will always be remembered as a loving and now until then you mother, sister, will always remain our Friend. grandmother, and friend. -Pauline Tolbert Things that I loved about Rena was her accent when she got upset the Scottish became much more pronounced. Also, that she made each and every one of us who worked under her supervision tough and helped us become the person we are today. She always stood behind her drivers and she excepted us to do our job and to the best that we can. She was not only my supervisor but she grew to become one of my best friends. I love and miss her. she will always hold that special place in my heart. I can honestly say if you had the opportunity to know Rena Payne then you had the opportunity to know a very loving, caring, and a very out spoken lady. God is now lucky to have her and I am sure she is looking down from Heaven smiling at all of us that she loved and cared for very deeply. - Angela Rojas. INCA Informer—May 2014 News
