As our school year comes to a close, we would like to take the time to reflect on all of our wonderful accomplishments this year. Our school community has been working diligently to teach with rigor and excellence. We continue to focus on enhancing our curriculum to ensure that we met the Citywide Instructional Expectations and move our students to meeting higher standards. We were honored to have been visited by New York City Schools Chancellor, Carmen Fariña. It was wonderful to have had the special opportunity of highlighting the many ways in which P.S. 127 is unique. We would like to thank all of our staff members who willingly gave of their time to support our school initiatives and extend programming opportunities for our students. As always, we would like to sincerely thank our parents and families who have given unselfishly to all of our school events and fundraisers, as well as, dedicated their time to enhancing our school community. The McKinley Park School takes pride in reflecting upon another year of excellence and achievement. We are very proud of all of our students who have worked so hard and made such significant strides both personally and academically. We would like to congratulate Mr. Marinoff and our students for the beautiful performance and participation in the District 20 Arts Festival held in late May! We look forward to the many festivities planned throughout the month of June in which we will celebrate the accomplishments of our students. Our 2nd and 3rd grade Junior Chorus, as well as, our 4th and 5th grade Senior Chorus will be performing at our Spring Concert during the evening of June 15th at the final PTA meeting. First Grade News
By: Mark Pett and Gary Rubinstein The Girl Who Never made Mistakes is great story for children to read during the month of June as we reflect on our school year and look forward to the future. This book provides offers children a valuable lesson: “Learn from your mistakes, let go, laugh, and enjoy the ride." Beatrice Bottomwell: a nine-yearold girl who has never (not once!) made a mistake. She never forgets her math homework, she never wears mismatched socks, and she ALWAYS wins the yearly talent show at school. In fact, Beatrice holds the record of perfection in her hometown, where she is known as The Girl Who Never Makes Mistakes. Life for Beatrice is sailing along pretty smoothly until she does the unthinkable– she makes her first mistake. And in a very public way! Please use this book as a teaching tool with children to teach them that it is ok to make mistakes, we should learn from our mistakes, and that no one is perfect.
Enjoy!
First graders have learned so much this year and are all ready for second grade! We are continuing to work hard in Journeys and will be finishing our program soon. We are continuing to practice creating story structure maps, understanding characters, and finding the main idea and supporting details of a story. First graders will be finishing up the math program as well. We are busy bees this month and have many upcoming events that we are looking forward to such as; first grade awards, the last Family Friday of the year, and our school dance festival, which we will be performing a dance to the song, “Lolipop”. We also encourage our school community to support our “Relay for Life” team on June 17th. There will be no school for students on June 8th and June 12th. Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy – Anna Fridman PT, Patrick McTague OT,Samantha Racznski OT
Summer 2017 is nearly here and most of our children are looking forward to being on an extended break from school. All our students have worked hard this academic year and have earned some much needed down time from hitting the books and studying. But the opportunities for learning are never ending. Summer is a great time for children to learn and develop outside the structure of formal school. The occupation of children is to play, and the benefits of playing outdoors are many! Here is just a small summer checklist, if you will, of the opportunities you can provide for your children this summer that will help to improve their fine motor, gross motor, visual motor, and body awareness skills that will serve to help them in their academics: build a sand castle, fly a kite, go for a walk, play at the park, paint a picture, go for a bike ride, play with bubbles, read a book, kick and throw a ball, throw water balloons, color with sidewalk chalk, go swimming. We hope everyone enjoys the summer and we will see you in September! __________________________________________________________________________________
