The Men’s Cross Country team started off a great year with a strong 2nd place showing at the Purchase College Invitational led by freshman Chris Guerrero who won the race in his collegiate debut. In the next few weeks they were able to build off the momentum of that first race. The progress of the team really showed at the Hunter Invitational.

At the Hawks home meet, the team was split evenly into two different teams. The Hawks responded by finishing second and third in the meet with an identical score of 86 points. Had the teams not been split, the Hawks would have won the meet with a score of 33 points. Roster A week later, competing on the same course, the Hawks captured the program’s first CUNYAC Championship since 2005, 12th overall after dominating the competition. The duo of Chris Guerrero and junior Luis Cabrera led the entire race with Chris edging Luis right at the finish line. Their times of 28:42 and 28:43, respectively, were a full minute faster than the third place finisher. The Hawks had four of the top ten finishers to compile a team score of 34 points. This was 35 points more than second place rival Baruch College.

The Hawks concluded the season with a fine showing at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship held at Letchworth State Park in Geneseo, NY. Guerrero was the team’s highest finisher, placing 92nd out of 264 competitors with a time of 27:43.3. Cabrera was second in 28:03.2. He was followed by sophomore Arben Argair who finished in 29:14.8, and then junior Benjamin Chateauvert at Head Coach: 29:52.6 and freshman Jose Miranda rounded out the team’s top Asst. Coach: Asst. Coach: five with a 29:58.0 performance.

Cabrera was honored as the CUNYAC Runner of the Year while Guerrero was named CUNYAC Rookie of the year by the conference office. Gem Alegre, Arben Argair, Ben Chateauvert, and Jose Miranda were all named to the CUNY Athletic Conference All-Star team. Hall of Fame Coach Ed Zarowin earned the Men’s Coach of the Year Award.
