The METRORAIL Expansion Project

Houston’s Metropolitan Transit Authority (METRO) is executing a plan to make your daily commute easier by expanding the city’s current light rail system. The additional 22.6 miles of track will enable riders to access the rail from multiple neighborhoods around the city. The development of 5 new light rail lines, 3 of America’s 4th which are already under largest city is under construction, will help alleviate transformation. some of the congestion on Houston highways in a way that is environmentally-conscious. Save on gas, enjoy a more relaxing commute, and clean up our environment by taking advantage of MetroRail!

NORTH LINE (Red Line)

SOUTHEAST LINE (Purple Line)

UH-DOWNTOWN TO NORTH LINE TRANSIT CENTER/HCC  8 stations

DOWNTOWN TO PALM CENTER TRANSIT CENTER  11 stations between downtown & Palm

 A 5.3 mile extension of the existing Red Line  Begins at University of Houston Downtown, travels north on North Main to Boundary, crosses east to Fulton, then north to Northline Commons Mall, ending at Northline Transit Center

 Convenient access to the East End Line, Southeast Line, University Line & Uptown Line

 Opening: 2014

Center Transit Center

 6.6 mile line  Begins downtown, travels southeast along Capitol & Rusk to the Palm Center near Martin Luther King Boulevard & Griggs Road

 Connects Texas Southern University & the University of Houston’s main campus

 Easy transfer to the East End (Green) Line & the Red Line

 Opening: 2014

DOWNTOWN TO MAGNOLIA PARK TRANSIT CENTER  9 stations  3.3 mile line  Travels along Harrisburg from the Magnolia Park Transit Center into popular downtown entertainment & business destinations

 A portion of the track is shared with the Southeast (Purple) Line allowing easy transfer for access to the Palm Center & University of Houston’s main campus

 Riders can also access the Red Line for travel up or down Main Street
