Milk Carton Eye Model Introduction: This document describes how to construct a demonstration model of the eye which shows that the image on the retina is inverted and the eye must focus the image. Materials: • magnifying glass • ½ gallon milk carton (2 cartons preferred for strength)
Instructions: • Cut the milk carton into three parts, roughly as shown, discarding the top. • Cut a hole for the lens on one end of one section, and attach the lens. • Form a screen on the other section with strips of translucent tape (transparent tape). — This portion would be stronger if it is made from the bottom of a second milk carton. • Make a slit on the opposite sides of one section, expanding its size, and put it back together with duct tape, allowing the other portion to slide in inside of it.
•
Put the two sections together, point at a bright object, and focus the image on the screen.
