UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 245 LEROY-GRIDLEY BOARD OF EDUCATION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES – MARCH 14, 2016 1. Call to order regular meeting Time: 7:31pm by BOE President Greg Yotz. 2. Members present Birk X , Lind X , Ohl_X , Patterson X_7:37, Thomsen X , Yotz_X__, Garland X_ Also present were Mike Kastle, Superintendent Mentor, Russell Mildward, Superintendent Trainee, Julie Rosenquist, Principal at Gridley and Kayla Kraft. 3. 6. Reports: A. Principal’s Report – Julie Rosenquist informed the board that the popcorn fund raising is going well and will be using the money raised towards purchasing football uniforms. The Middle School Scholars Bowl team placed third in the league, and parent teacher conferences went well and had a good turnout. Julie had some discussions at looking at the possibilities of having a day care service at Gridley and wanted to know what the school could do to assist. Julie presented to the board a flow chart on dealing with how to respond to situations involving social media and a guide to responding online. The Board asked her to create a flow chart similar to this and use as a tool for our district. B. Superintendent’s Report – Mr. Mildward reported that a contract to CLI Curriculum has been accepted for 2016-2017 Curriculum Development and will again work together with Burlington USD 244 to provide those services to staff. Schedules are being worked on for the upcoming school year and should be presented next meeting. Seniors have finalized their senior trip and will be going to Destin, Florida. Consumable math textbooks have been ordered for grades K-8. Mr. Mildward gave an update on Senate Bill 505 involving cash balances. The unencumbered cash balances held by each district that is over 15% of the district’s expenditures could result in having this excess money deducted from their aid. This would include bond, interest, capital outlay, and gifts and grants. This could have an enormous impact on the district and will continue to monitor this bill in legislation. C. Technology Report – The computers in both Elementary labs have been updated and are waiting to hear when fiber can begin being installed in the district. 7. Board Matters A. Old District Office – discussion was held concerning the selling of the district office and the Board would like to wait until the decision from Senate Bill 505 is made before making a recommendation. B. Science Fair—Bridgette Griffin, Science Fair sponsor discussed the expenses for the students to participate in the State Science Fair in Wichita. I make a motion for the district to supplement $700.00 for registration fees, meals, and lodging for the Middle School State Science Fair participants and sponsor. SCCHS Gymnasium Floor—Discussion was had about the High School gymnasium floor needing sanded and sealed. I make a motion to accept bona fide bids for the sanding and sealing of the High School Gymnasium from Lankford Enterprises Inc. $11,200 and the bid from 4 State for $9,374.40 for sanding and sealing the High School Gymnasium. F. School Banners—Discussion was had on the new boards that will be put up in the High School to make sure that the boards used big enough lettering to see from the stands of the gymnasium.
