In the state of Mississippi, insurance companies have the authority to declare a vehicle a total loss if your auto is in an accident. If your insurance company takes possession of the vehicle, they are required to apply for a Salvage Title. Once a salvage title has been issued, the vehicle is no longer registered and cannot be driven. To apply for a title on your salvaged vehicle, or for additional information on how to title your salvaged vehicle in MS, you can go to your local Mississippi County Tax Collector’s office to pick up and fill out a Salvage Title Application. Once you fill out the form, the vehicle passes inspection and your car is deemed roadworthy, you may apply for a new MS vehicle title. For more information on Mississippi Salvage Titles, you can call 601-923-7200. For a complete listing of County Tax Collector offices and phone numbers, visit the Mississippi Department of Revenue’s website: http://www.dor.ms.gov/ Note: The Mississippi Department of Revenue or Mississippi County Tax Collector offices do not offer online or phone services to purchase a title for a salvaged vehicle.
