Each can holds the same amount. So, the last ounce is divided equally among the 5 cans.
Yup. We can write the result of division as a fraction or a mixed number instead of a quotient and a remainder.
Each can has an additional 1 1÷5=_ 5 ounce.
So, there are 1 1 _ 3+_ 5 =3 5 ounces of Fun-Doh in each can?
Take a look at this can of soup.

How much is 2 6 _ 3 ounces?
So, each 6 serving is 2_ 3 ounces.
6 26÷3=2_ 3.
|t’ll be easier to tell if we convert 2 6 _ 3 to a mixed number.
We know 24 that _ 3 =8.
2 6 _ 3 is just 24 _ 2 _ 3 +3. 6 So, 2_ 3 ounces 2 2 _ is 8+_ 3 =8 3 ounces.
So, each serving gets 2 another 2÷3=_ 3 ounce. That makes 2 2 _ 8+_ 3 =8 3 ounces of soup in each serving.
That makes sense.
That leaves 2 ounces to split 3 ways.

The quotient gives us the whole number part, and the remainder gives us the numerator of the fraction.
To convert 2 6 _ 3 into a mixed number, we can use the quotient and remainder of 26÷3!
That’s great!
The denominator is the same as in the original fraction. 2 2 6 _ _ 3 =8 3 .
Try
80 _ 7.
80÷7 has quotient 11 and remainder 3. So,
3 80 _ _ 7 =11 7 .
