Why Should I Go?
As you touch down in Jackson Hole, Wyo., it immediately becomes clear why so many are enchanted by this skiers’ haven. The Teton Mountains loom majestically wherever you turn. The wide, open spaces and fresh, crisp air invigorate the senses and immediately put you in the mood for adventure. Although Jackson Hole attracts the majority of its tourists in the summertime because of its proximity to Yellowstone National Park, the ski season (December through early April) is not to be overlooked. The skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, located in Teton Village, is some of the country’s finest, and the town of Jackson’s laid-back vibe, charming
shops and fabulous food make it a great destination for those who choose to stay off the slopes.
Where Should I Stay?
If you’re looking for quiet, understated luxury, away from the hustle and bustle of Teton Village, check yourself into Amangani. Perched high atop East Gros Ventre Butte, this 40-suite boutique resort is just 15 minutes from the town of Jackson. Suites come complete with fireplaces, flat-screen TVs and sunken tubs, from which you can take in an unforgettable mountain sunset. Book a 60-minute combination massage for the day, and at night, take a dip in the hotel’s heated outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. Also ask the everattentive staff to help set you up by the fire pit, where you can roast marshmallows.

The air up there From top: Experience some of the world’s best skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Enjoy a cocktail with your mountain view in the lobby at Amangani. The 151room Four Seasons is perfect for couples or families, and its location is ideal.
Breakfast highlights concocted by executive chef Joseph Santangini include walnut crème brulée French toast with maple syrup and warm caramel sauce, and OK!’s absolute favorite dish, the Wyoming eggs benedict with smoked trout, asparagus tips and chipotle hollandaise. To experience the area’s stunning nature up-close and personal, book a half-day Wildlife Safari with Jared Paul. You’ll be driven through the National Elk Refuge, Grand Teton National Park and Bridger-Teton National Forest. OK! spotted coyotes, elk, bison, mule deer, moose, wolves, bald eagles and rams. You’ll be amazed at how beautiful these animals are, and how well they camouflage themselves in their surroundings. The stunning Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole is located right in Teton Village, and is the area’s most luxurious ski-in/ski-out hotel. (Amangani, while not located in Teton Village, does have a Ski Lounge at the base.) Book a deluxe executive suite, so you can enjoy lounging in your living room by the fireplace. The food at the Four Seasons alone is enough
to lure you out West; for hearty fare after a morning of skiing, head to The Peak, a great place to enjoy a cocktail and socialize with other guests. A favorite dish: the grilled Tillamook cheese sandwich with avocado and tomato. For a true treat, head to the Westbank Grill for dinner, and try the porcini mushroom and Idaho potato gnocchi and the ancho chili–charred duo of buffalo tenderloin and scallops. For après ski and sushi, head for the lounge and try a buffalo tenderloin and tea-seared tuna roll.
What should I do?
Skiing at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is an absolute must. If you’re a beginner, or just want to brush up on your technique, book a lesson with the Mountain Sports School and its expert instructors. The proximity of the Four Seasons to the slopes can’t be beat. Their superb Ski Concierge can assist you with everything from clothing and equipment rentals to arranging your passes — they’ll even keep your boots warm while you break for lunch. Ease your tired
muscles with an 80-minute Alpine massage at the Four Seasons’ Spa, where every treatment is followed with a delicious coconut sorbet. Definitely spend time wandering the streets of Jackson, where you’ll find art galleries, boutiques and restaurants. (The Four Seasons offers complimentary shuttle service to town.) Mountain Khakis, a local brand, makes fantastic corduroys; Harrison Ford picked up several pairs of their Original Mountain Pant at Jack Dennis. If you need some last-minute ski gear, check out local brand Cloudveil, sold at Skinny Skis. You’ll also encounter some fun watering holes that still hold onto their cowboy roots. Saddle up at The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar (no, really, the bar stools are actual saddles) and try a hot-buttered rum. Among the standout restaurants: Koshu Wine Bar, which serves shared-style dishes, and OYG, which serves up pizza “dim-sum” style on Sunday nights. The cozy atmosphere keeps visitors coming again and again, so book a OK! reservation well in advance. Feature by Jacqueline Neiss, OK! Travel Editor OK! March 5, 2007 81
